Sterile Processing Department

Oversee the training and education of 75 staff members. Support operations of quality and control within the department to comply with all bodies regulatory agencies like AAMI, CMS, OSHA, CDC, AOR and SGNA. Responsible to create, update and review existent policy and procedures for decontamination of surgical instruments, assembly, sterilization and distribution of sterile goods. Maintain work flow and relationship with operating room personnel and other departments served by SPD. Develop training process modules for staff on going competencies and new employees. Advice and assist on training for future SPD employees through volunteer office or 1199 union members. Report monthly departmental graphs on regards productivity, infection control margins, use of IUSS and volume of case loads. Conduct QA’s reports on surgical instrumentation, equipment and endoscopes. Work with different departments to establish best standards practices on regards of medical instrumentation. Assist and manage inventory reports on regards of locations, case carts and add or edit existent count sheets. Routinely work alongside staff to demonstrate and maintained quality on each are of processing. Interview new potential hires to the department. Provide formal educational in services on new instrumentation, equipment use and on going none protocol issues. Maintain and check daily sterilization records of all steam, sterrad and automatic endoscopic processor. Daily check up of environmental control in the department to keep protocol in sterility. Engage with vendors to improved processes to help the department to be on compliant with loaner instrumentation and sterilization guide lines. Skillful on Abacus tracking system, Power Point Presentations, McKesson (HSM) Surgical OR schedule to coordinate picking of cases casts card preferences. Monitor work responsibilities with repair vendor to comply with expectation of good care of surgical instruments. .
