I'm a Spanish filmmaker & entrepreneur, passionate about creativity, innovation, and unpaved roads. I landed almost accidentally in Ethiopia in 2008 and my plan to travel around the world got screwed by its magic charm. I decided to move there, eventually spending a decade in the Horn of Africa, involved in education, documentaries, and mainly, let’s be honest, coffee tasting. Happiest time ever.I don't know how, but in 2018 I managed to make my regional government believe that I was worth a scholarship that would cover the expenses to pursue a Master’s Degree in Filmmaking in Los Angeles. As soon as I realized that I was not dreaming, I decided to put all my energy on a very personal project: a film adaption of the memoir written by my wife, the Ethiopian American artist, Abezash Tamerat, titled: "How Long Could a Paper Boat Float?". All this while bringing to the world the first Californian in the family. SoCal, we’ll be back one day!A tiny but deadly virus that we all know too well brought my growing family back to Spain in 2020. My second child was almost born on a plane, literally -the story is out there, you can read it. After a little time warming up the engines in the South of Spain (South, always South), "What's next?" I thought. Since my nine siblings decided not to share with me their passwords to watch TV shows anymore, and after a threatening straight look into my eyes by my 2-year old daughter, I knew that, 37 years later, it was time to stand on my own. I could not think of anything better than starting my own company to increase my debts. So I launched this startup that connects innovative e-learning tools with filmmaking narrative, hand in hand with world leaders from the Hispanic culture. We named the baby, Magistri ('maestros', in Latin).To add insult to injury, and since I'm quite ordinary, I tried to surround myself with the best talent in Andalucia and elsewhere, so that they could fill my absurd, innate gaps, to help me steer this ship and avoid catastrophic sinking. This involved working closely with the Missionaries of Charity congregation on the ground to ensure that the children's needs were met after they left their orphanage (housing, school, health, emotional support...). I worked in communication and networking, as well as strategic planning and project management. I was responsible for managing finances, which would require attention to detail and a strong understanding of accounting principles. I also organized events and fundraising campaigns, recruiting and managing volunteers, and liaising with other organizations and stakeholders to build partnerships and promote the NGO's mission. Undoubtedly, my work on the ground with the children was most satisfactory.
