I am an accomplished and innovative leader known for developing and implementing strategic objectives that enhance business performance, with expertise in leveraging environmental infrastructure to unlock sustainable land value for future generations nationally and internationally in rural and urban environments.Currently, I am the CEO of Central Plains Water Ltd (CPWL), South Islands largest irrigation scheme. From humble beginnings in 1883 to a thriving force in environmental stewardship, it is a privilege to lead CPWL into the future as we continue to innovate and explore ways to leverage our world class climate resilience infrastructure and sustainable water supply for food and fibre production, and to provide solutions that benefit our communities.I am recognised for my ability to deliver solutions to complex problems, ideating future-focused strategies, including irrigation schemes and regional scaled renewable energy generation, producing long-term economic, environmental, and social outcomes. I deeply understand the regulatory environment related to GHG emissions, water quality and water availability, managing systems and processes to identify and meet consent and compliance. I have been an effective leader in attracting investments that leverage existing infrastructure assets for value-add and set objectives, developing business cases and environmental management plans, assessing opportunities, completing submissions, applications, amendments, and agreements.I constructively contribute to all aspects of governance, advocating valuable insights to board conversations, looking outside the box at regulatory issues, and creating simple and elegant solutions to multiple challenges. Currently sitting in three (3) Governance positions, championing business solutions to support objectives and performance of the organisations. I am passionate about the importance water security plays for our communities, along with food and fibre production, and deeply involved with the Agricultural sector. The breadth of my network enables me to make connections and thus opportunities that may typically not occur. I have a proven track record of assessing opportunities for existing infrastructure assets and developing business plans for value-add outcomes to deliver the identified strategies.

  • Central Plains Water Limited (Cpwl)
    General Manager, Environmental
Central Plains Water Limited (Cpwl) Apr 2011 - Aug 2017
The CPWL Enhancement Scheme is one of the largest infrastructure projects ever undertaken in the South Island, designed to deliver sustainable run-of-river irrigation to 63,000Ha, with an estimated value of $422M. Alongside the Executive Team, I was accountable for executing investment-ready requirements for Stage 1, Stage 2, and Sheffield pre-construction, construction and operations (Stage 1) of the Scheme. My role involved implementing project governance structures and processes relating to the environmental work programme, securing funding, leading farmer uptake, managing risk, and health and safety. The scope of the work was very diverse. It required multiple skill sets, from a sound understanding of the regulatory requirements of resource consents and processes to technical detail relating to water quality/level monitoring data, evaluating trends and effects pre/post scheme operations. I needed to ensure all the parts were well-coordinated and integrated to achieve key targets on time and within budget, meeting and exceeding them in multiple instances. I had an outstanding team of appropriately qualified and skilled people, empowered to manage specific areas of the programme. Direct actions of my leadership and team’s delivery to meet a 100% compliant Scheme on time/budget resulted in CPWL being presented with the ‘Champion Canterbury Innovation Infrastructure Award’. During my time at CPWL:- I spearheaded the grant application for Stage 1 and secured $11M Irrigation Acceleration Fund from Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI); - Achieved and, in some instances, exceeded 75% of minimum farmer investment targets for each stage; - Secured additional consents and resolved appeals where required;- Established Future Foods Initiative and built and maintained the Social Licence of the Scheme.

  • Aecom
    Director Of Operations
    Aecom Sep 2003 - Mar 2005
    Dallas, Texas, Us
As the DOO, I stepped up to manage the office upon the resignation of the Principal Landscape Architect. First and foremost, I needed to reintegrate two separate businesses into one; EDAW HK (Subsequently bought out by AECOM). I co-managed seventy-five (75) staff, and proudly re-built the team culture and morale. I oversaw project financial performance ~$HKD25M / NZD$5M of fees, managed thirty-five (35) staff and ~70 projects, reporting monthly to the Head Office USA. Furthermore, I transformed ~40 underperforming projects, reviewed, and worked with each project manager to bring them back on track, aligning with the objectives and targets. I needed to achieve 85% utilisation for staff, ensuring a minimum of six (6) months of staff capacity was 100% secured. Under my leadership, I exceeded targets of staff turnover, with only one staff member leaving during the re-integration stage. I completed bi-weekly assessments of the project backlog and capacity actuals and forecasts in consultation with the finance team to ensure targets were met. This included looking at opportunities for sharing capacity/utilisation (staff resources) on projects in other offices across the Asia region.
