About James Goodman
Remote sensing is my passion. From the moment I first laid eyes on a satellite image I’ve been fascinated by the patterns and information just waiting to be unlocked in this incredible data. I’m one of those airline passengers you see staring endlessly out the window at the ever changing landscape below, in my case contemplating the nature of different surface features and brainstorming options for potential applications. By putting this passion into practice, I’m proud to say that for the past 20+ years I’ve been fortunate enough to call remote sensing a career.I’m the founder and current President/CEO of HySpeed Computing, a technology company focused on innovations in applied remote sensing and geospatial analytics. My expertise includes spectral analysis, image processing, software development, mathematical modeling, data science, and cloud computing, among others. I’m also a strong proponent of democratizing access to Earth observation data and information. Hence, a fundamental aspect of my work is advancing the science, business and technology of remote sensing in order to put analysis tools and insights into the hands of the user.Throughout my career, I’ve been honored to receive a number of awards for my achievements. Most recently I received the 2019 International Space Station Research & Development Conference award for “Compelling Results in Earth Science and Remote Sensing”, recognizing my work on development of a web application for on-demand, scalable, cloud-based hyperspectral image processing. I’ve also been awarded numerous competitive grants from NASA, ESA, NSF, NOAA and the U.S. ISS National Lab for my innovative research. In short, I welcome new challenges and eagerly pursue any opportunity to transform the science of remote sensing into practical applications for the community. When considering the ongoing evolution occurring throughout the satellite, drone and data analytics industries, it’s an incredibly exciting time to be involved in remote sensing. The industry as a whole is experiencing a widespread paradigm shift in Earth observation, and a fundamental transformation in what is possible using this technology. I’m proud to be a leading innovator in this field. If pixels could talk, what stories they’d tell. I’m here to help tell these stories.
