Terry has had a career in Workforce Development/Employment Services for over 30 plus years with The Arc San Francisco and as of 2017 joined the amazing bay area non-profit, Toolworks. She obtained her Elementary and Special Education teaching credentials from San Francisco State University. She spearheaded one of the state’s first supported employment programs at The Arc in the early 1980s, and is a member of San Francisco’s Jobs Group an association of local non- profits who work with Department of Rehabilitation, The Bay Area Caucus, Project SEARCH Coalition/ Internship Program. Other association memberships include BNI networking, SF Chamber of Commerce, The SF Mayors Committee on Employment of Persons with Disabilities, and the Association of Persons in Supported Employment, Hire Able and SF ReServe. In 2009 She worked closely with Maria Shriver’s “WE Include” Initiative to increase the hiring of persons with Intellectual and Developmental disabilities in government offices, and in 2007 worked with San Francisco Mayor Newsom’s Office on 100 jobs in 100 Days Campaign. Over her career she has presented in numerous radio and TV interviews promoting the hiring of persons with developmental disabilities. , In 2011 she developed a strong partnership with PG&E resulting in an outstanding internship program which has expanded opportunity for career growth and job placement for many individuals. Terry started The Arc’s Business Advisory Council (BAC), a group of community business partners who work to provide more job opportunities for people with disabilities. While at Toolworks Terry has created many work opportunities for people with disabilities including new Internship Programs with various businesses: Pinterest, Marriott Walnut Creek, Eastbay Municipal District and Grocery Outlet job sites. In commenting about her work. Terry says, “It is truly moving to see how a job can change an individual’s life. Our clients acquire such self-confidence and increased self esteem, from gainful employment—and that has kept me in this field for so many years – it is very moving to see such transformation in a individual when given work opportunities.
