    I co-manage a millimeter wave radio astronomical laboratory at UMass. We build sensitive millimeter-wave and submillimeter-wave instruments that are then installed on some of the largest radio telescopes of the world. I use such instruments to study the process of star formation in giant molecular clouds both within our own galaxy and in external galaxies. I also develop a suite of data analysis software packages that deal with large multi-dimensional astronomical data generated by a new generation of radio astronomical instruments. I am actively involved in the Large Millimeter Telescope (LMT), a 50-meter diameter millimeter-wavelength telescope in Mexico. I build instruments that allows the LMT to participate in an unprecedented experiment to image the Event Horizon around the super-massive black hole at the center of the Milky Way Galaxy and around nearby galaxies. I am also the PI of a NSF funded project to build a 1-mm wavelength focal plane array receiver for the LMT.We receive our funding primarily from the National Science Foundation.
