As a research assistant, my primary tasks focus on both solifugae and marine invertebrate specimens. I assist with the identification of solifugae along with georeferencing and databasing specimens. Images of specimens are taken to capture informative characters and to provide visual tools on databases. Both light microscopes and SEMS are used in imaging and databasing. For a larger study, I extract DNA from tissues and prepare the libraries for sequencing off site. My responsibilities in zoology also include the imaging and editing of marine invertebrate specimens. I work with volunteers to gather and edit the images generated in our collections. Edited images, measurements and metadata are made available to the public through Arctos. As a researcher in a public facing position, I regularly engage and communicate with public audiences to disseminate arachnology related information and research.
