Recruited by SSE and Innogy as CFO (designate) and Board member to lead the finance function and IPO of a new company to be created from the merger of SSE's UK energy services business and Innogy's Npower. The merger would have created a business with 10 million customers and a turnover of c.£10bn. SSE and Innogy were unable to agree revised commercial terms following the introduction of a price cap by the industry regular (Ofgem) resulting in the planned merger being aborted in late December 2018.

Responsible for investor relations, treasury, tax, internal audit, IT, planning and financial control.Led the successful IPO of Infinis (with CEO) in November 2013 (FTSE 250)Led significant restructuring of capital structure as prelude to IPO - 9 project finance facilities refinanced by single £300m facility (2015 PF deal of the year); £350m high yield bond refinancing; RCF facility. Additional £200m facilities raised to finance assets under construction.With CEO, supported due diligence process resulting in Terra Firma retaking the business private in November 2015.

EDF created ESCS in 2009 - turnover £7bn, annual capex £300m, 7,500 employees. It comprises 4 business units - Upstream (coal and gas generation and renewables), B2C (supply of electricity/gas to 5m customers), B2B (supply of electricity/energy services to 300k businesses) and Optimisation (hedging strategy/short term trading).Recruited as a member of the Executive team to provide financial leadership to a business operating in several complex and competitive markets and which was undergoing significant change. Specific deliverables included the design and implementation of a new finance organisation for ESCS from legacy organisations; launch of a major transformation programme to address longstanding audit/control issues; upskilling of ESCS finance capabilities. Executive Team member, Chair of Trading Risk Committee and member of Margin and Investment committees;Director of various investment project boards including renewables and gas storage;Responsible for planning, reporting, financial control, governance and energy market & credit risk throughout ESCS - 300 staff;Appointed new leadership team and launched Finance Transformation programme to deliver significant and measurable improvements in control environment, service delivery, staff morale, etc whilst achieving significant headcount reductions.All objectives achieved ahead of schedule and role successfully handed-over to to French ex-pat at end of assignment.

Drax is a FTSE 250 power generation and commodity trading business. In 2005 Drax was owned by lenders and answered to a bank monitoring committee and I was recruited by the Board to provide financial leadership. Restructured the balance sheet and led refinancing and IPO in December 2005. Drax entered the FTSE 250 in December 2005 and FTSE 100 in June 2006.Responsible for finance (control, tax and treasury), business planning, investor relations, trading risk management (middle and back office), procurement, IT and M&A.Developed case for restructuring and business strategy with the Board; developed capital structure, key financial policies (including distribution policy) and obtained investment grade credit rating in support of trading strategy.Recruited senior finance team, strengthened financial controls, introduced business planning function, etc. Developed and led company-wide approach to risk management and chaired the Risk Management Committee.

Asked by Chairman/CEO to lead BE's financial restructuring following a collapse in UK electricity prices resulting in the company facing administration.

Appointed to the Board of BE Generation (£1.4bn sales) with responsibility for Finance, Business Planning, Business Systems, Fuel Procurement - 45 direct staff and £200m annual budget spend.
