After a rewarding and interesting six years at Zero Waste Scotland, the time has come that I retire from the employed status of being an Energy Manager to a more relaxed position. Where possible I will assist by sharing my knowledge and experience to support the up and coming energy professionals in this high profile sector. I will remain an active member of the South of Scotland branch of the Energy Institute and assist where possible.

Perth & Kinross Council.I lead a team of four colleagues responsible for all energy related matters within Perth & Kinross Council. The team is proactive in reducing energy and water consumption by implementing strategies and procedures, identifying opportunities in new builds, refurbishments and also in retrospect by using energy audits reports to draft action plans. The team manages a multi-site portfolio of 450 non-domestic properties responsible for an annual energy and water budget of £4.9million.I became the Energy Officer for P&KC in November 2001 when energy was mainly an administrative task but with the generation of energy linked to fossil fuels, the profile of energy management to reduce the impact of climate change has increased considerably. Although from a practical background based on an HNC in Electrical Engineering, I found that the networking opportunities as an affiliate member to the Energy Institute assisted me in gaining experience and expanding my knowledge and understanding of all related energy concerns. In order to raise my professional profile internally as well as interacting with external organisations and stakeholders in carrying out my duties, I decided to submit a Professional Development Review to the EI membership panel for their consideration. Based on their decision, my knowledge and experience has now been recognised by graduating onto professional membership and Chartered Energy Managers status. Show less
