Following on from the successful integration of Delcam into Autodesk, I continue along similar lines as my previous role, albeit under the umbrella of a far larger, more dynamic and exciting company. Working with the same group of talented individuals , yet having access to new people and resources has proven extremely beneficial and enlightening.

Employed by a leading global CAD/CAM software development company, providing pre- and post sales support on behalf of Delcam to prospects, existing customers as well as Delcam partners and resellers. These duties include presenting and marketing the relevant products through demonstrations, seminars and trade shows. A large emphasis is also placed on training and supporting customers ensuring a valuable partnership is maintained.The range of products include a suite of applications ranging in diversity from Computer aided manufacturing, Computer aided design, metrology & inspection, reverse engineering to Healthcare oriented products catering to the dental and orthotics industries.

This position was accepted as a stopgap challenge whilst my Canadian permanent residence visa was in its final stages of processing. It turned out to be an extremely valuable 6 month challenge and opportunity.--------------------------------------Employed at Prematech B.V. in Holland on contract basis through Kelly Freelance. This position involved creating efficient re-runable programs for the batch machining of high precision engineering components ranging from aluminium to stainless steels while working on varied projects including aerospace, telecommunications and defense. Milling was done on various 3 to 4 axis CNC’s with HEID TNC426 controls. Where necessary, 3D surface milling toolpaths created using Cimatron E software

In order to expand my work experience but also see a bit of the world I moved to England to seek my next role.---------------------------------------------------------------------Duties included complete 3D surfacing and modelling of either existing 2D component geometry, or from scratch, in order to facilitate the manufacture of the respective injection moulds. As part of a company designing and producing high quality cosmetic packaging products, complex and intricate shapes needed to be modelled and the required toolpaths generated for machining. Machining was carried out on mould inserts and electrodes on 2 Bridgeport machines (Heidenhein Control). Other responsibilities included importing 3D customer component geometry and producing Perspex or foam models for approval before ultimately manipulating these surfaces to machine the required mould inserts and electrodes. Programming and cutter path generation carried out on Delcam’s PowerMILL and PowerSHAPE.

First post-qualification position held after completion of Toolmaking apprenticeship.-------------------------------------Manufacturing of plastic injection moulds to the requirements of various industrial customers. Mould features encountered include, hot-runners, 3-plate manifold systems, the moulding of internal and external thread and stripper plates. Where necessary, machining was done on several vertical CNC’s and programmed with MASTERCAM version 6

Following completion of high school I decided to follow in fathers footsteps and enter into a Toolmaking apprenticeship. This was after a years military service and also a years backpacking throughout the globe.------------------------------------------------------------------------------Progression from manufacturing basic jigs and moulds to more advanced designs. This included manufacture, modification and repair of plastic injection moulds as well as DMC compression moulds. Catering mainly to the electrical and related industries, moulds were seen through from design stage to completion by individually assigned toolmakers allowing gainful experience in precision milling, turning, grinding and spark erosion. CNC knowledge was gained through the operation of Bridgeport CNC machines.

As part of a mandatory national service program, I enlisted in the SA Infantry before volunteering to attend basic training and selection phase at 44 Parachute Brigade. Subsequent to successful selection and jump course, specialized warfare training continued until eventual transfer to 451 Parachute Battalion in Phalaborwa.
