Over four decades of overseas international development & humanitarian work. Like many I started out as a volunteer, in 1971 I joined newly established American PVO, AFRICARE in Diffa, Niger. Endured harsh and extreme conditions but gained invaluable experiences and knowledge and, like many, I learned more than I taught!For the next +15 years I worked throughout Africa, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Asia, the South Pacific and Central Asia, a well-travelled globetrotter. More recently, I have worked in governance, democracy and elections and visited close to 100 emerging democracies while assisting and supporting new EMBs.For the past 20 years I immersed myself in the relatively new sector of good governance & the delivery of goods and services to emerging EMBs. My election beginnings commenced in Haiti and since then I've provided goods and services to over 80 new EMBs, to a few established ones, too. I have delivered some of the largest consignments of electoral materials, often in Polling Kits, a method I helped develop and implement, now an industry standard.I designed, developed, and implemented real electoral materials innovations, including design & development of a new tub style “transparent” ballot box, widely copied-widely used, also, instrumental in the design & development of the process now known as BVR, a term I coined, replacing EVR!After twenty years of experiences, I now assist and direct a most recent Canadian addition to the electoral, governance and democracy community, The Canadian Organization for Democratic Elections.At The Canadian Organization for Democratic Elections, we work to strengthen political & civic organizations with the delivery of professional advisory services, training, operational support, and best management practices. CODE Canada builds on the skills and experiences of electoral bodies, and electoral stakeholders to enhance sustainable and inclusive democratic practices to strengthen the electoral process.
