I prefer roles that require venturing, nurturing and building. Although I perform a number of Non Executive Director roles, my preference is always to be closer to the action. As a result I have been exposed to green fields innovation and have also developed a knack for turning around and redirecting existing operations. Asking the right questions is becoming more important than knowing all the answers, especially in a rapidly changing world where adaptability is key. Fintech and Insurtech, in particular, used in an Emerging Market context to enable financial inclusion, are among my current interests. I come from a family business in Sawmilling & Forestry, which had a positive influence on a number of executive management positions I have held in major corporates. Although the focus has been on Financial and Professional Services, particularly Short and Long Term Insurance, Life and Employee Benefits, I am not industry bound and have wider experience in Forestry & Wood Products, Manufacturing and FMCG. My own invested interests include micro insurance, education and a fashion design and manufacturing business to really mix things up nicely.To round out a solid base of professional education, I have been privileged to enjoy 20+ years of Executive Management experience: CEO, CIO, CFO, COO, including Board member of JSE Listed companies with representation on Audit Committee, Group Risk, Finance, Remcom, Tax & Investment Committees.
