Founded in 1920, Pioneer Motor Bearing (www.pioneer1.com) is a small, special niche firm, now located in the State of North Carolina in the U.S., that designs, manufactures and repairs hydrodynamic bearings for large capital rotating equipment, primarily in the electric utility and general industry sectors, for original equipment manufacturers and end users. Responsible for expanding from California to North Carolina in 1989, including site selection, property development, construction and equipping of a new manufacturing facility near Charlotte. Developed and maintain to this day license relationships with Siemens Energy, Inc. (beginning in 1989 with its antecedent, Westinghouse Electric Corp.) and General Electric Technology GmbH (beginning in 1993 with its antecedent, ABB Power Generation and later Alstom Power). In 2005, entered into an alliance with Michell Bearings (Newcastle, UK), formerly a member of the Rolls-Royce Group and now a British Engines Ltd. company. In August, 2017, inked a Technology License Agreement with Zollern BHW Gleitlager GmbH & Co. KG of Germany to provide engineering and technical services, including repairs, in support of customers of Zollern's Plain Bearing Technology Division in the aftermarket in Canada, the United States and Mexico. (On April 1, 2020, terminated the alliance with Zolllern on the basis of a change of ownership whereby MIBA of Austria took control over Zollern's bearing division in a new joint venture between MIBA and Zollern.)Closed Pioneer's old South San Francisco plant and sold off the property at the height of the "dot com"​ boom in 2000, expanding the North Carolina facility soon thereafter. As a CEO with a legal background, I have small company management experience, as well as experience with strategic planning, business development, marketing, contract drafting, negotiating terms and conditions, license agreements, IP and alliance issues, etc. In more recent years, some of my time has been devoted to increasing export sales of our engineering services.Background: Partner in a San Francisco Peninsula law firm and president of the San Mateo County (California) Bar Association prior to joining Pioneer Motor Bearing Company in 1986.
