The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Advisory Panels provide expert knowledge on key policy priority areas in line with CIOB’s corporate plan. As part of our Royal Charter, we have a responsibility to promote the science and practice of building and construction for the benefit of society through education, research, and engagement with the industry and the public. Identifying opportunities and develop outputs that will further best sustainable and environmental practice and standards within the built environment.

Building upon the success of our 2 previous Welsh Chairs and the CIOB team in Wales it is an honour to pick up the batten on behalf of the 1400 Welsh CIOB members and the Built environment ecosystem at large.Fostering an inclusive platform for sustainability, built environment and refurbishment learning, sharing and discussion, across the whole nation and further afield. Ensuring Wales’s voice is heard during a period of enormous challenge and change for the UK and the professionals involved in delivery.

I Joined the board top assist in procurement, built environment, low carbon development, and sustainability aspects of FCHA’s scope and delivery. A leading voice on the board for Carbon measurement, decarbonisation and Net Zero projects. First Choice Housing Association provides quality of life through provision of quality, bespoke accommodation that enables tenants to achieve independence, fulfil their potential and optimise enjoyment of life, and allows staff and family to be part of that journey.Working across the whole of Wales.During my time on the main board, I have also sat as the New Office Committee Chair; Member of the Scrutiny Committee; Member of the HR Committee.

Over an 18-month contract I was tasked with delivering the Service Desk to provide solutions, insights and knowledge to the relevant teams in public bodies to assist the roll out of EV infrastructure across Wales. I instigated and delivered webinars, events and data to the relevant teams in Local Authorities, Public health Boards and Government to assist in steering strategy, procurement and delivery aspirations of the £26m Welsh ULEV fund.I assembled the first collaborative and sustainable network within the Welsh EV Infrastructure ecosystem between Local Authorities, Health and Education boards, National parks and any public body looking to provide infrastructure and also to share the knowledge learning and information across the whole ecosystem. Working closely with Active travel, train and bus teams within TFW to deliver a holistic and transformative Wales.I undertook the first Survey of ULEV installed equipment across the nation showing the increase of over 50% within the year, alongside reviewing and vetting upcoming grant funding allocations.Presented at the Welsh EV roadshow, Royal Welsh and numerous webinars.

As business development manager for a local, tier 1, and longstanding company, I was able to improve issues including CSR, STEM visits, Carbon reduction, environmental, inclusion and leadership As part of the senior management team at Henstaff I worked with multiple clients and stakeholders to drive sustainability improvements and ensure our governance is effective and understood across all our processes and projects. Aspects implemented were: • Measurement and monitoring our Scope 1 & 3 Carbon emissions to be able to decrease our impact immediately as we continue to operate.• Measurement of our embodied Carbon figures for recent schemes• Implement and maintain the Environmental Management systems (ISO14001 and sustainable procurement plans)• Through the inclusion of the Exemplar2021 scheme, we are providing lessons learnt and STEM guidance and information back into the industry.• Developed and updated the website and social media presence of the company by over 500%• Instigated the decarbonisation of the company fleet with the first all-electric vehicle• Looking at how to assist our clients and the industry in delivering to the sustainable goals and #FutureGenerationsAct

At GBSPM, I held multiple roles as the founder, owner, managing director, and BREEAM Assessor. Our consultancy was a small yet impactful player in the industry, specializing in environmental assessments and sustainable practices. This small Multi Award winning consultancy provided BREEAM, CeeQual and Defence Realm environmental assessment models alongside Programme and project management expertise, Carbon monitoring and team facilitation and training. I leveraged European grant funding to transform GBSPM from a single person operation into a dynamic team at the forefront of environmental advancements within the construction industry. Improving the learning, quality and sustainability of over £3 billion of successful projects delivered within the build environment. Our strategic approach combined with hard and soft skills ensured or teams targeted the critical aspects: • Carbon, Energy, and Water: GBSPM prioritized efficient resource utilization on site and in the operational stages, minimizing environmental impact. • Supply Chain and Waste Streams: We meticulously measured and recorded supply chain activities, waste management, and material usage. Including waste, energy and water during programme.• Consultation and Design Reviews: Workshops, site visits and sharing of knowledge to improved aspirations and delivery aligned with carbon, energy, social and sustainability goals.• Transport and access: auditing and where possible, improving locations against local community provision, transport links and accessibility to active travel were audited and where possible, improved.As principle and leader, I ensured an open and inclusive environment was enabled, inspiring strong team building, management of relationships, marketing, and business delivery of the company. This dedication, expertise, and a commitment to sustainability can transform a small consultancy into an industry leader, resulting in winning 5 BREEAM National Awards.

In charge of re-energising the Exemplar Programme. Implemented a streamlined process, reset and updated KPIs that highlighted client maturity, strategic aims, alongside the actual project delivery and measurement of outcomes.Increasing the programme from 19 schemes of £600m value, to over £2billon on 33 Schemes within 18 months.Promoting collaboration, innovation and best practice across the whole span of the industry from Leadership to Sustainability and Diversity to Carbon Measurement. Working closely with the Industry, government and stakeholders he provides knowledge and understanding on the procurement, inception and delivery of many diverse projects across the whole of Wales through events, media and conferences in both Wales and the UK.
