Department Of Education And Training, Victoria, Australia Apr 2014 - Feb 2016
    Melbourne, Australia
Having developed and delivered a $65M Opex budget and leading a team of 65, I managed the largest IT environment in the Victorian Government portfolio. With over 33,000 wireless access points and 4,500 physical servers, DET's technology footprint spans the state.I developed a significant service management framework and organisational transformation program, which was implemented with a go-to-market for managed services, and restructuring a complementing in-house operational team. This delivered an outcome of a cost neutral service delivery improvement, and added significant value to the business, aligning the service delivery platform to business needs.
  • Monash University
    Manager Infrastructure Transformation/Network Operations
    Monash University Sep 2012 - Apr 2014
    Clayton
As Manager, Infrastructure Transformation I redeveloped the University’s datacentre strategy, avoiding expansion into a new datacentre, and significantly reducing capacity in a managed datacentre, resulting in significant savings. As Manager, Network Operations, I have restructured the Network Operations team and developed the operational plan and strategic roadmap for the University Network.
  • Monash University
Manager, Desktop Solutions/Program Director, Desktop Soe
    Monash University Oct 2010 - Sep 2012
Having built a very effective SOE for the Faculty of Business and Economics, our CIO asked me to do the same for the entire University. I assembled a team of 20 engineers and project managers, which enabled the development of a new University Windows 7 SOE and retire a large and complex Novell environment from the University. This included delivery of a new 1.2Pb storage solution (Netapp); a new Microsoft SCCM (2007) environment; a new clustered Microsoft Print service; packaging of over 400 applications; migration of 14,000 workstations from Novell to Microsoft (SCCM, print), A/D, Netapp storage and migration of 70,000 student accounts from Novell to A/D and Netapp storage.
  • Monash University
    Manager, It And Infrastructure Services
    Monash University Oct 2008 - Oct 2010
Developing a new Service Management Framework, involving moving the focus from the technology to business service delivery I restructured the team of 40 resources comprising the service desk, desktop support, applications development and support and built a PMO capability. Implementing Infra Incident and Request ITSM I ensured the team were ITIL trained. My team designed, developed and delivered a new Windows 7 SOE and migrated the entire Faculty of Business and Economics onto the new environment with a significant reduction in operational risk. In the development of the new SOE management services, we virtualised the Faculty Linux and Windows infrastructure onto blade servers.
  • Sp Ausnet
    It Infrastructure Services Manager (Acting)
    Sp Ausnet Apr 2008 - Oct 2008
Managing a team of 50, I developed the 2009 group IT budget ($11.5m) and completed the implementation of ITSM (ITIL incident and change) for the organisation. I developed a new greenfield datacentre infrastructure architecture for the SP-AusNet/Alinta merger and also as part of an executive team, developed an ABC operating/cost model for the new entity.
  • Sp Ausnet
    Server Infrastructure Manager
    Sp Ausnet Apr 2006 - Apr 2008
As Server Infrastructure Manager and Datacentre Manager, my first achievement was to build a new server and database services team (from 4 to 10 – 1 exit, 7 new hires) and insource all outsourced infrastructure services from the incumbent, to SP-AusNet. I also cut $400kpa from our Sun maintenance costs, virtualised nearly all Windows servers (better than 10:1) reducing our time to market for new services and reduced datacentre footprint, consolidated 5 disparate windows file servers (SAN) onto a single Netapp (NAS) service, and consolidated our heterogeneous backup environment onto a single enterprise class service. This all reduced cost, complexity and operational risk.
