Elecex, Falkirk Jun 2015 - PresentCompany DirectorIn my position at Elecex I was responsible for all aspects of the engineering design, development and testing of the product range. As Elecex was a startup with a small and talented team this required both leadership and direct engineering input.• Management of design process from concept to implementation. This involved leading a team of engineers (internal and contactors) in a wide range of activities, including equipment and component specification and selection, engineering calculations, analysis, certification & manufacture drawings, bills of materials, prototyping, programming and product testing. This was completed whilst meeting the multiple goals relating to functionality, cost, lead time, robustness, compactness and portability, ergonomics, product safety, design for maintenance/service, design for manufacture and design for assembly.• Management of engineering – Coordinating a team of engineers from a mixture of disciplines including scheduling to meet project planning deadlines and providing support, coaching and mentoring to engineers. • Quality Lead - Design, implementation and management of a quality management system compliant with and audited against ISO 9001 and BS EN IEC 80079-34 (for both ATEX and IECEx).• Responsible person (ATEX/IECEx) – All duties associated and defined in this role as per BS EN IEC 80079-34. The role at Safehouse was to develop and improve their full product range and associated services. These main responsibilities included: • Product development to meet the strategic needs of the company (to ISO9001:2008 Clause 7.3) developments included new product variants, modifications to the design to make it suitable for different climates and environments and developments to reduce cost.• Producing drawings for manufacture• Producing inspection drawings• Producing customer drawings• Producing site drawings for operations team of as built enclosures• Assisting the marketing team with product • Technical support to the operations team for construction and tendering• Product certification (ATEX / IECEX / UL In Metro)• Creation of technical documentation: Manuals, Specifications, Training and Drawings, Records etc• Validation and verification of design, both internally and externally with laboratories, field experts and notified bodies against specification and technical standards• Managing external contractors• Training and mentoring junior team membersSome of my key achievements include:• Improving the company quality management system by designing and implementing processes for design and development (7.3 of ISO 9001), calibration and to meet the additional needs of repairing and maintaining hazardous area equipment to meet the needs of IECEx• Developing a more advanced control system for the habitat• Developing a range of ATEX certified power tools; a collection of grinders, paint removal tools and cutting tools.• Gaining patent protection for many of my ideas and designs (3 granted with ~4 pending)

The main duty was to produce isometric drawings of the individual systems at BP's Kinneil asset in Grangemouth. This was done by visiting the site to make hand sketches and then following this up in the office with a copy on PC.
