We are building the Brave Coop.Brave keeps you safe from overdose by connecting you with people who care. Virtual buddies will watch over you as you consume, and if you overdose, they'll get you help from your community, trusted strangers that are nearby, or professional responders. As we build this out we're busy researching, building and exploring other tools, buttons for locations where people commonly use - connected to a network of trusted community responders, wearables to detect early signs of overdose and send out appropriate alerts, SMS-tools to receive peer support, data dashboards with real-time data and reporting functions, and open API's and SDK's are also in the works. Vancouver is the latest in a number of moves - physical and metaphorical - over the years and the Brave project is the fulfillment of my dreams to work at the cross-section of social impact and technology. I'm qualified in neither but have been passionate about both for as long as I can remember. I finished law school in 1998 and have been slowly moving away from the strict practice of law since then (lawyer, to in-house lawyer, to legal advisor, to general entrepreneur). I've been fascinated by technology, gadgets and science fiction since I was a kid. So to be working on problems at the intersection of social impact and technology, to be trying to use the near-ubiquitous tools of our mobile phones for something that could go so far as to save someone's life, is a big thrill.
