I was brought in as a Python Specialist to work on internal products. Part of the goal of these products is to set a standard and example for high quality Python engineering. And so in addition to day to day development, part of my role was to raise the quality bar in these products by drawing lessons in testing, structure and style from my experiences as a Python developer.I also served as tech lead on two products, working with the relevant product managers to set product direction and balance technical and customer requirements.

I am a Co-Founder of Hotcakes (https://hotcakes.ltd/) a B2B eCommerce marketplace in the Speciality and Fine Food sector.As the technical Co-Founder, in addition to a bunch of finance, operations and general business stuff, I personally built the entire eCommerce platform from the ground up. Hotcakes is a Python/Django system running out of Docker on AWS Elastic Beanstalk.

As CTO at StructureFlow I was responsible for overseeing development and helping to balance the product roadmap and vision with development practicalities and timelines.

At Rehabstudio I was brought in on a contract basis to bridge the gap while they found a replacement permanent Python Lead for Google's Digital Garage learning platform.The Digital Garage platform covers dozens of topics has over a million students and is localised into approximately 40 different markets.The emphasis was on having a strong experienced developer who could drop into an established project, manage the stakeholders and provide ongoing development and technical support along with handover for the eventual permanent replacement.This was originally a 3 month contract that was extended to 4 and a half months.

Throughout this work the low level knowledge I acquired from my embedded background gave me critical insight into optimizing Python programs.I was the lead developer for a number of Python based tools and had technical oversight of all other tools development. As part of this work we migrated the legacy software source repository (including 14 years of history and ~250,000 check-ins) to newer technology.

Wifi driver development in embedded CEmbedded C, Python, Shell, VCS(Subversion), CI(Jenkins and homebrew), CTypes, Wifi and NetworkingMy core work at G2 was development of embedded Wifi protocol and driver software. Along with this I was heavily involved in tools development in Python. As part of this tools work I lead a project to test embedded C code from Python via a CTypes bridge. I also developed Python based flash memory programming and CPU debug tools.Cross discipline work was common at G2, for me this included working with the hardware team to diagnose chip level issues, travelling to Singapore and the Philippines to support production line testing and travelling to the USA to participate in Wi-Fi Alliance certification.

Slot machine driver development in embedded CAt Aristocrat I worked on regionalization of slot machine software. Each new slot machine game needs to have a dozen variants created, with each one conforming to a different local regulatory regime.

Network switch driver development in embedded CEmbedded C, VCS(Clearcase), NetworkingAt Allied I developed and maintained embedded drivers for gigabit switches and routers in embedded C. During my time there I was involved in all phases of the product development lifecycle, including conception, hardware and software specification, initial run-up, software development, verification testing, accelerated life testing, mass production and customer support. Notably I was given primary responsibility for core switching driver support for ATR's next generation switches. Along with this came sole responsibility for source synchronization between that project and the mainline code.I also independently developed, and supported a tool for analyzing stack dumps. This tool let us push the stack dump analysis significantly closer to the failure, where related information such as software build details were more readily available.
