C-17 Pilot, Chief Of SafetyUnited States Air Force Jul 2014 - Jun 2017Greater Seattle AreaU.S. Air Force Reserves, McChord Field, WA -
Chief Of SafetyUnited States Air Force Feb 2012 - Jul 2014Dcma Bell Helicopter, Amarillo, Tx- Director of aviation and ground safety program encompassing the manufacturing (1M sqft facility), testing and delivery of over $13B US Government owned or insured CV-22, MV-22, AH-1Z, and UH-1Y aircraft. Led Joint USAF - USMC safety team, investigations, and strategy."Experiences in combat operations, high altitude mountaineering and testing new aircraft have taught me an important lesson about safety: it is possible to do inherently dangerous things in a safe and predictable manner. With the right combination of risk management (deliberate / real-time), proactively seeking the next mishap before it happens (through data analysis / candid feedback), and maintaining a culture adverse to complacency, we can accomplish very difficult or dangerous goals safely and efficiently." -
V-22 Acceptance Test PilotUnited States Air Force May 2011 - Jul 2014Dcma Bell Helicopter, Amarillo, Tx- Government Flight Representative. Managed quality production, flight test, and delivery of the joint USAF-USMC $10.1 billion V-22 Osprey contract. In 2012, this included 419 V-22 sorties and 698 flight hours, resulting in the purchase of 35 operations-ready V-22s by the US Government. - Represented the U.S. Dept of Defense with Bell and Boeing leaders on a daily basis to troubleshoot schedule, quality, and performance issues to ensure on-time, on-budget production and delivery to our warfighters. -
Special Operations Pilot (Cv-22, Mc-130)United States Air Force May 2001 - Jul 2014- 13 years of leadership experience as an Air Force Special Operations officer and pilot. Demonstrated strength in training and leading others to perform in fast-paced, high-stress environments requiring attention to detail, ability to meet stringent deadlines, and quick adaptation to constantly changing priorities. - Decorated combat veteran of multiple tours in Iraq, Afghanistan and North Africa, as well as world-wide humanitarian missions."The biggest lessons I have learned from my time in the Air Force include: -- People are the single most important asset any organization has and experienced employees cannot be easily created or replaced.-- An effective leader inspires trust and enthusiasm through authentic respect for followers and by being an example of what he/she expects. Autocratic command is bound to fail.-- Risk is essential to accomplishing any mission, but that risk must be proactively mitigated to balance exposure with expected returns. -- Leaders that avoid risk or stick firmly to the status quo will drive their organization into obsolescence.-- Outdoor adventures and international cultural exchanges give service members unparalleled opportunities to grow spiritually, emotionally, socially, and physically; resulting in an increased capability to handle stress and operate at peak output." -
Executive DirectorUsaf 50 Summits Challenge May 2014 - Jun 2017United StatesContinuing on the success of the USAF 7 Summits Challenge, the smaller 50 Summits Challenge was created to offer 50 opportunities for US Air Force members and their families to enjoy an adventure in America's outdoors. International, high-altitude mountains are cost and time prohibitive to most participants, so we made the project local. The goal is to boost physical, mental, spiritual, and social resiliency as well as community bonds through collaborative outdoor events atop the highest point in each state. To date we have organized and accomplished 28 'expeditions' nation-wide, promoted outdoor health skills among 370 participants (over 356 reached their summit!) and delivered our message to over 235,000 Airmen. Concurrently we are researching policy and developing a business plan to offer service members and their families annual resiliency boosting experiences in the outdoors as part of their government approved wellness training. The goal is proactively teaching skills before tragic or difficult events happen, rather than relying on a reactive, and therefore inefficient, approach.
