The ‘Nederlandse Basketball Bond’ (Netherlands Basketball Federation) was founded in 1947 and currently has about 40,000 members, spread over more than 300 local associations. In my dissertation ‘Choices in Pension Management’ I’ve scrutinized the complexity of choices in pension organization, focusing on amongst others risk preference heterogeneity, optimal pension plan asset allocation and efficiency of pension funds. I followed the Erasmus Doctoral Programme in Business and Management of the Erasmus Research Institute of Management and the position was funded by the Erasmus School of Economics. The position consisted of research (75%) and teaching (25%). My teaching responsibilities included: - Supervising MSc theses in Financial Economics - Guest lectures at VBA, Postgraduate program Investment Management & PE module Investment Professionals - Teaching assistent for the Certified Pensionexecutive program - Erasmus School of Accounting & AssuranceMy research was published in amongst others the Journal of Banking & Finance, Journal of Risk and Applied Economics. The Erasmus University Rotterdam (Erasmus School of Economics) belongs to the top universities in the world with respect to economics and business (24th in Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2018).

As part of my PhD research I've spent 8 months as a visiting researcher at the Supervisory Strategy department of the Dutch central bank (‘De Nederlandsche Bank’). The research, focusing on X-efficiency and economies of scale within pension fund administration and investment, was published in Applied Economics, ‘Economisch Statistische Berichten’ and ‘Tijdschrift voor Pensioenvraagstukken’.

The Pensions and Actuarial Services team of Hay Group advices corporations with respect to their pension schemes from a total reward perspective. The position was part of a (MSc) graduation internship and consisted of consulting support and research. The research focused on eliciting pension plan members’ risk preferences and translating it to optimal asset allocation.
