As the design engineer I was responsible for mechanical design of all new product developments. I was made the project lead engineer for the first prototype. It was completed on time within budget and was the first CE certified machine ever at EFD induction India. As one of the first engineers to join the newly formed product development team I was instrumental in establishing standard procedure for how projects were qualified and funded as part of research and development. I compiled the proposal for the first project - an induction tempering machine. I was responsible for designing the entire machine in 3D and creating the necessary manufacturing drawings. I was involved very closely in the various stages of manufacturing - procurement, fabrication, quality inspection and assembly. Once assembled the prototype was tested extensively mainly for production efficiency and safety. I worked closely with 3rd party safety consultants to ensure the machine met safety directives as per European standards. Overall the final machine was certified as saleable.Part of my role as design engineer in product development was to assist the sales team in preparing proposals for clients. I was responsible for providing detailed cost estimates of new machine types. Also I worked closely with the sales team to convert client requirements that were new to the company into product development proposals.
