Having done many work experiences, I have built on my skills such as; communication, verbal, written and teamwork. I am able to work under pressure in a busy environment and take on instructions given to act towards it quickly. During my experiences and time at university in nursing made me appreciate the challenges you meet in a medical career and that those with challenging mental capacity need individual care for their wellbeing. I realised that nurses must be available to respond quickly. Hence must always be active with fluctuating working hours. Furthermore, working under pressure is an essential skill because during the course I will be working towards deadlines in order to hand in my coursework on time. Similarly, nurses will have to complete the correct paperwork and various tasks. Moreover, in the course and the profession it is vital to be organised as this will make time more efficient. My placement during my degree and working as a nursing assistant has enabled to pursue skills which will help me towards becoming the best nurse to my ability. I did tasks such as; I took on the responsibility of doing observations on patients and being able to know how to do their PEWS including neurological. Be able to do airway management on children under anaesthetic I learnt what the position of the patient’s jaw should be. It is important to have a care plan put in place for each patient and make sure that the target's are met. In addition, giving medication and the right dosage is important whether this is tablets, IV or liquid as this will affect there care given towards the patient. I have built on several skills throughout my three years at university and placement which has made me feel more confident. Working in a hospital environment I learnt how to deal with patients in any situation and to always act in a professional calm manner. The skills I have acquired will help me transfer to the medical field.
