I am fortunate to be involved in several areas of higher education. My career in adult education at the community college began in 2004 as an adjunct history instructor. Sharing and discussing history is a fabulous way to earn a living, and I feel fortunate to do so. I have taught primarily American history through Reconstruction, and I still do. I have also taught American history through recent history and both surveys of world history. I have also taught North Carolina history. I became a full time instructor in 2006. Critical theory informs both by teaching philosophy and administrative responsibilities. I seek to recognize how certain groups in society have had to struggle with certain circumstances be they economic or cultural and then I try to use that information to guide decisions about how to help all groups of people. Currently my specific research interests are to understand the civic learning experience of students in online classes at the public community college as the subject of my dissertation for a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
