Special Projects Assistant
CurrentI design and publish photo year-in-review books for George Washington's Mount Vernon and the Fred W. Smith National Library for the Study of George Washington. I work closely with the staff of the president’s office, as well as the marketing and communications team to create high-quality yearbooks that highlight the annual milestones and events at Mount Vernon. Responsibilities include creating project folders to organize photos and design outlines for each yearbook, reviewing archived monthly letters and related department reports for events to highlight, utilizing social media platforms to find relevant information and media, and gathering additional photos and information from staff members. I use Mount Vernon’s platforms of Tandem Vault and Piction to gather high-res photos and work with the marketing team regarding copyright protocols. I have developed and maintained a photosystem that includes identification of all photo credits, organization by the subject of all photos, and labeling of all photos. I also use Adobe platforms such as Photoshop and Lightroom to enhance or edit photos when necessary. I oversee all aspects of the graphic design of each book, including layout concepts and final drafts, and copywriting in the yearbook, including articles, sidebars, infographics, and pull quotes. I ensure all elements follow Mount Vernon’s style guide and editorial guide and that all required elements are on a page, including finished copy, photo captions, design credit, photo credits, copy bylines, design elements, and sidebars.
