Norwich Open Christmas is an annual event held on December 25th, dedicated to providing a warm Christmas celebration for individuals who are homeless, alone, or in need.As Head of Communications for Norwich Open Christmas, I oversee the strategic planning and execution of all external communications, ensuring we effectively engage with volunteers, guests, and donors. This includes producing a quarterly newsletter for our volunteers, coordinating meetings with external donors and key stakeholders, and maintaining up-to-date social media channels and our website to ensure our guests have the necessary information to join the event.In addition to managing day-to-day communications, I’ve worked behind the scenes to develop a unified communications strategy that aligns all messaging across the charity’s Trustees, social media platforms, website, and marketing materials. One of my key initiatives has been to expand the charity's narrative beyond Christmas Day itself, focusing on ongoing issues such as homelessness, loneliness, and poverty — challenges that many of our guests face throughout the year.I’ve also implemented foundational communications tools, such as a comprehensive Tone of Voice and Style Guide, which have helped us deliver more polished and professional messaging. These improvements have not only enhanced our public image but also opened doors for collaboration with local influencers. Moreover, these changes lay a solid foundation for future-proofing the charity’s communications as we continue to grow and evolve, particularly in anticipation of future changes in Trustees.

As a Senior Stakeholder Engagement Officer, I lead some of the NMC's key stakeholder audiences, including employer trade associations, workforce and development bodies, and international nursing and midwifery associations. As well, I am audience lead for internationally educated professionals. Being an audience lead means that I am the go-to person for the whole organisation if they want to understand the best way to engage and communicate with my audiences. I have background knowledge and connections with these organisations/people that allow us to effectively work with them when needed. As part of being audience lead, I have also planned and implemented the delivery of key engagement activities, including a new strategic forum for international nursing and midwifery associations. This forum will now help to influence the NMC's key work streams to ensure the voice of international and diaspora professionals is heard. Another part of my role is that I oversee the creation of our monthly stakeholder newsletter, which has highlights of our news and events for stakeholders all in one convenient place. As part of my role, I'm also lead on various NMC projects. These have included the updating of our education standards and the organising an event which focused on international professionals within social care. These projects allow me to work with other members of the communications team to bring together all the necessary products for these projects to be a success.I'm currently leading on the NMC's response to malpractice at an English test site as well as the introduction of NAs to Wales.

As Stakeholder Engagement Officer, my role was to support senior colleagues in their work to engage with our audiences, as well as be the backbone of my team. This job was an excellent foundation for me to understand how communications and engagement work is carried out and it helped me realise that I love comms and want to stay working within it. This role allowed me to work with all of my team members to understand how different audiences are managed and how different engagement/communications techniques can be used to get the best results. The jobs I managed included creating and overseeing the work on our monthly newsletter, producing correspondence in the name of our Chief Executive and Chair to be sent to senior stakeholders, organising our Honours response two times a year, as well as leading on internal projects for our team.

My time as an intern for FPP was during some of the strange months when working from home was compulsory because of the Covid-19 pandemic. At the same time, I also began a Master's degree with Goldsmith's University (which was also predominately online). This meant that, whilst I was readily supported by my internship supervisor and had a timetable of lectures, it was necessary for me to dedicate and manage my time so that I could complete my internship and university work simultaneously, but also complete it all to a high standard. By needing to balance the time I spent on my different priorities, as well as allowing myself free time to wind down, I have been able to hone my organisational and time management skills so that I understand how to prioritise and when to give myself a break so that I do not burn out. The projects I worked on at FPP were very rewarding because they were so broad and allowed me to use the researching skills I had gained at University. The projects allowed me to put my knowledge and skills to the test for a real life situation. One of the projects I worked on was an appeal of a rape case in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This case followed after a group of rape survivors were appealing a court decision of not guilty that was given to their rapists. My job was to research national jurisprudence, the judicial system in the DRC as well as what rape actually means within different law contexts, in able to help lawyers on the ground in the DRC appeal the case. I brought together all of the research I found and created a precis with the most relevant material, which was then sent across to the lawyers in the DRC. Unfortunately, my internship with FPP finished before the end of the appeal case, but I was later emailed by an FPP colleague that said the research I put together was vital in the not guilty verdict being successfully appealed. It was one of the proudest moments of my life knowing that I had helped in some small way.

I worked as an office intern for Sheringham Town Council from March to September of 2020. The Council had previously allowed me access to their staff, Councillors and the daily workings of the Council so that I could study and understand local government for my ethnographic based undergraduate dissertation. The Council kindly gave me that access, and so when the COVID-19 pandemic hit and they needed an extra pair of hands to help with the additional workload that the pandemic presented them with, I offered my services. My main duties whilst working for the Council included daily administrative tasks such as monitoring mailboxes and responding to public enquiries as soon as possible via email or over the telephone; filing, photocopying and printing necessary documents for my supervisor or Councillors themselves; helping to minute and put together agendas for Council meetings, as well as keeping on top of office supplies such as stationary and tea/coffee, scheduling the calendar of my supervisor and updating the Council noticeboards with relevant information. The project I am most proud of working on during my time at the Council was when I digitised and updated the cemetery records. The cemetery dates back over 100 years and the records were still being kept up to date using a paper method. This method, whilst traditional and charming, is one which leaves the records vulnerable to loss or damage. As such, I took it upon myself to create an online version of these records that would be easier for the staff to monitor and manage and that could be updated anytime from any of the systems computers. That way, the staff could continue to use the traditional method but if the records were lost, stolen or damaged, they would all be backed-up on an online system.
