Veterinary Assistant
CurrentI work as a veterinary assistant at the Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center. My primary goal as an assistant is to support veterinary professionals in providing excellent care to the patients that enter the hospital. As a night-shift employee, I complete tasks in many departments. Treatment - Animal restraint for emergency/critical care examinations and procedures,helping technicians and doctors with various tasks, communicate with clients, etcTriage - Collecting histories from clients on emergency/critical care appointments and collecting a TPR from the patientICU - Monitor patients between treatment hours, collect TPRs, walk, feed, and water patients, restrain animals for certain treatments, help technicians with anything they need during treatments, make phone calls to clients with updates on admitted patients, etcPharmacy - Fill prescriptions for emergency/critical care to go home and for admitted patients, explain medication instructions to clientsNecropsy - Process deceased pets, Maintain records for pet aftercare, Create pawprint memorialsMiscellaneous - Maintain the hospital in order for it to function smoothly. Stocking, Cleaning, Laundry, Dishes, preparing cooked foods for admitted patients, etcThis job has made me adapt to an extremely fast-paced environment while upholding a high standard of care for patients and their families. I have also learned how to work as a team that supports one another during overwhelming and challenging circumstances.
