I led usability efforts in the design and development of cardiovascular and peripheral vasculature devices within Philips Image Guided Therapy group. I worked in a cross-functional team where I was responsible for all Usability deliverables including Use Scenarios, User Requirements, and Use FMEA. I also led user research efforts including formative studies and summative validations where I was responsible for the protocols, moderator/participant packets, and validation reports. I maintained an up to date knowledge of IEC 62366, FDA Applying Human Factors and Usability Engineering to Medical Devices, AAMI HE75.

I worked in a student-led team to develop a paper microfluidic device to help detect pre-eclampsia in expecting mothers in Ethiopia. I worked on the device subteam to determine the best materials, geometries, and flow rates for the device. This semester, goals include fixating antigens on the flow strip that will react with a blood sample, finalizing the flow strip design, and ensure manufacturing plans are clear and reproducible.

As a Human Factors Engineering Intern, I worked in the Image Guided Therapy Devices business. During my internship, a few of my responsibilities included creating health and safety protocols for usability testing, executing user interviews and observations, creating an ergonomics review for a developing project, and contributing to usability deliverables across multiple projects. I also became familiar with best practices of user centered design, experimental design, and regulatory guidance including AAMI HE75, IEC 62366, and FDA documentation. As a part of a cross functional team I worked closely with marketing, systems engineering, and clinical to advocate for user-centered design in developing products. I also gained significant exposure to cath lab procedures, clinical workflows, and technology.

I worked in Dr. Wilbur Lam’s lab as an undergraduate researcher studying ways to provide a more accurate and convenient at-home blood count to cancer patients through the use of a microfluidic device. I learned aseptic cell culture techniques and lab safety with biological hazards. I also assisted with the design of the microfluidic channels and was responsible for building and testing these prototypes to determine if an accurate blood count could be acquired.

As a summer intern at Varian Medical Systems, I worked as a Project (Design) Management Intern on the Velocity team in Atlanta, Ga. My primary project was to research Agile methodology and determine how to apply these to a highly regulated environment. I created a JIRA/Confluence workflow and training for the members of the Velocity team to use in future projects. Additionally, I worked with RA/QA to create and review documents for the release of a Velocity software update.

I worked as an intern and brand ambassador with Refuge Coffee Company, a coffee company and job training program for refugees in Clarkston, Ga. As an intern, I helped organize fundraising events for donors, worked informational booths about the company, and designed menu boards for the shop.
