I worked with Drs. Monica Fabiani and Gabriele Gratton in the Cognitive Neuroimaging Lab. I study healthy aging, particularly the intersection of cognition, fitness, and brain activity, using a variety of methods including near-infrared spectroscopy, fast diffusive optical imaging, EEG, and MRI.http://cnl.beckman.illinois.edu/

Worked 5 hours per week with several undergraduate associates to provide peer advising, homework and statistics help, undergraduate research opportunities, and career and graduate school advising to psychology majors to an average of 4 students per week.Collaborated with a graduate student and other associates to plan programs for career development in psychology.

Facilitated the upstart of an eye-tracking laboratory, received training using the TOBII Eye-Tracking System and ran participants through experiments using the system.Collaborated with 1 graduate and 1 undergraduate student to receive training and present research papers to the lab.Participated in weekly lab meetings discussing papers and designing studies related to the social-cognitive goals of the lab.

Miami University

On research team with three other undergraduates and two faculty advisers. We designed a study investigating the effects of alcohol co-abuse with other common drugs (amphetamine, methylphenidate, caffeine, nicotine, alprazolam). Wrote and submitted a 34-page project proposal to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee for approval.Conducted the experiment via a mouse model using operant boxes to assess the animal's drinking behavior, a balance beam to assess motor coordination, and novel object recognition to assess cognitive functioning.

Oxford, Ohio

Worked 6 hours per week with another student to meet the needs of the professors in the Classics Department. This included creating bulletin boards around the building, retrieving orders from the print center and books from the library, in addition to copying, scanning, and restocking the supply closet.Acquired proficiency operating a copy machine for both scans and copies.

Spearheaded a project investigating differences in hypoxic responses of Tibetan and Bolivian pregnant women.Organized and cataloged ~500 floppy disks with the data from Tibet and Bolivia (circa 1993-4).Learned to operate 3 one-of-a-kind computer programs (©1990) specific to this data and wrote a manual for them. Processed the data on the old programs, organized it within Excel, and conducted a full statistical analysis on SPSS.

Cleveland/Akron, Ohio Area

Collaborated with Dr. Rocio Moran, MD, clinical geneticist, and another student on creating databases from patient information to be used for future reference and analysis.Critically reviewed 200 patient charts in EPIC for genetic test results, relevant test results, and relevant patient information.Compiled patient data into 2 databases. One on Whole Exome Sequencing and one on the relationship of connective tissue disorders to aorta complications. Dr. Moran presented the connective tissue database at an international conference.Completed CITI and HIPPA training; developed fluency with EPIC and Microsoft Excel.
