Trainee Paraprofessional - Network Management
CurrentI currently work as a trainee paraprofessional in the Southern Network Management Department within Energy Queensland. My job covers a wide variety of tasks: from running projects within maintenance programs such as REPEX, to maintaining statutory requirements for clearances such as CTS. Within these projects I analyse each problem by engaging with stakeholders, assessing risks for safety, business outcomes, and customer satisfaction and estimating costs. A key part of this is engaging with subject matter experts (SMEs) across various other engineering, project management and customer orientated solution departments. Some of the departments we collaborate with include construction, distribution and transmission design, distribution planning and engineering standards. We also collaborate with other stakeholders including customers to create the best solution for all parties involved. Another part of my role is assisting field crews to identify outages and voltage regulatory issues that may not be able to be easily detected. This includes analysing power quality meters to identify trends and how to prevent future outages or even failures of the network. Due to the variety of this job, time management and data management are key to keeping on task. I collaborate together with both data management and network solution departments to create, maintain and develop systems that manage large amounts of data within department wide data repositories. One recent example that I’ve been working on, is a system that automatically tracks the status, scope and who is in charge of each project. Even in the trial stage, this has provided a reliable platform that works with existing systems to manage both time and resources efficiently.
