The Master of Science in Computational Analysis and Public Policy (MSCAPP) Program is a rigorous, two-year program offered jointly by the Harris School of Public Policy and the Department of Computer Science at the University of Chicago. In this program, I will complete advanced coursework in public policy analysis, big data methods, machine learning, data visualization, program evaluation, and application development.

As a Data Analyst and Pollster for the National Education Association, my primary responsibility is to gather data from union members on topics such as educator burnout, union satisfaction, and educator priorities. I then effectively present that data to members, leadership, and the public to boost educator outcomes and union engagement. To fulfill this role, I utilize Qualtrics to write, edit, program, and field surveys. Then, I utilize PowerPoint and DataWrapper to prepare comprehensive slide decks that include survey analyses, data visualizations, and recommendations to union leadership and legislators on ways to improve educator outcomes.

As a Software Implementation Specialist, I was responsible for delivering data conversion services for car dealerships, installing and customizing the Reynolds Retail Management System software to fit the individual needs of clients, and training clients on how to manage accounting, payroll, and vehicle management dealership duties with the company software.

As an Undergraduate Learning Assistant for Intermediate Microeconomic Theory (Econ 410), I was responsible for answering students' questions during class, holding office hours for problem sets and exams, leading study sessions, and assisting the professor in preparing and grading homework assignments and exams.

I served as the sole research assistant under one of my former professors on a project relating to the Immigration Industrial Complex. I primarily worked on gathering, reviewing, and summarizing literature that would build our argument and inform the project.

As a data communications intern, I was tasked with writing, editing, and programming surveys with quality control checks in Qualtrics to be distributed to NEA members and the public. These survey results were utilized to improve union messaging, inform union priorities, and amplify the concerns of educators nationwide. During this internship, I was also responsible for tracking and analyzing publicly released survey data to provide context to and inform NEA's work.

As an intern with the CBMA team, I conducted research on teachers' collective bargaining contracts, educator pay, working conditions, and other issues impacting students and educators nationwide. Additionally, I was responsible for analyzing data to prepare statistics for NEA's Annual Ranking and Estimates report.

As an Immigration and Cross-Border Policy Intern, I primarily assisted the BPC's Immigration Team by conducting research, analyzing data, and writing blogs. For example, I analyzed the U.S. Census Annual Business Survey data and conducted research to contribute to a report on immigrant entrepreneurs. I also authored 2 published blogs on the BPC website informing the public about changing migration trends at the U.S. borders as well as COVID-19 immigration and travel restrictions. Finally, I monitored current events, sent out daily press clips to BPC’s Immigration Team, and attended immigration-related briefings and hearings so to report back comprehensive summaries to the team.

I worked as an intern on the Nonprofit Leadership Team. Some of my responsibilities included meeting with Congressional leaders’ offices to lobby for poverty-reduction legislation, engaging in public outreach so to mobilize people to contact their Representatives in support of our initiatives, and researching and tracking relevant legislation.
