Taught 2 levels of English as a Second Language [ESL] Language Arts to students in 9th-12th grade, where a Sheltered Instruction approach towards English as a Second Language education at the secondary level was utilizedTaught 1 section of an elective course called Reading Improvement for ESL students, where reading comprehension and fluency in the English language were focused on using targeted language practice each day Provided lesson accommodations to make Language Arts content comprehensible for ESL students including pre-reading frontloading to build/activate background knowledge through the use of vocabulary practice and graphic organizers, making predictions prior to reading, and other strategies to aid in student comprehension and overall understanding Collaborated as a member of the bilingual team in order to update curriculum, standards, and pacing for the ESL Language Arts Level 2 and Level 3 courses at the secondary level that are currently used within the ESL departments at the 3 high schools in the district Utilized student data in order to make educated, data-informed decisions in my classroom to form reading groups and focused reading instruction to meet my students where they were currently at in their language comprehension and fluencyPlayed an active role in monitoring student progress and working towards shared goals as a team within the bilingual department through weekly PLC meetings and curriculum planning
