I began my career at The Star as a reporter. In my last role as the Breaking News Editor, I helped lead the newsroom’s transition from its legacy mission as a print newspaper to a 24-hour digital media powerhouse that attracts millions of readers to our website from around the world. The last project I oversaw, “Stalk. Murder. Repeat,” won a first place National Headliner Award for investigative reporting (thanks to kick-ass reporters, of course). **July 2016 - August 2018: Breaking News Editor. Served as the leader of The Star’s breaking news coverage, a key focal point for our newly reinvented digital company. Lead six staff reporters; oversaw breaking news coverage as well as in-depth enterprise stories; edited copy and wrote headlines and social media copy. Worked to maximize audience for reporters' stories. Served on newsroom leadership team. I invigorated The Star’s breaking news coverage by inspiring reporters to adapt to new technology and a 24-hour news cycle, resulting in millions of new pageviews to www.kansascity.com. Oversaw award-winning projects.**2012 - 2016: 913 Editor. Was responsible for a 36-page weekly news magazine for Johnson County. Edited, from story creation to publication, weekly long-form cover story. Oversaw freelancers and edited staff writers. Worked with photographers, graphic designers and artists.**Pre 2012: Served in a variety of reporting and editing roles, including assistant city editor. Helped launch a social media site for women called mom2mom.com and a political website called Midwest Democracy Project. As a general assignment reporter, wrote award-winning pieces on a deadly flooding in the Flint Hills and problems with the child welfare system in Kansas.
