I help to manage the activities and personnel for a large group involved in multidisciplinary research projects. Project management accomplishments include: - Instrumental in managing the completion of a large software development project - Organized two scientific symposia and week-long summer schoolsMy job also has a significant research role (modeling, optimization, software development, and data analysis). Some research accomplishments include:- Developed software (C#, WPF, Matlab) to use Bayesian inference and Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) analysis and regularization to estimate model parameters from Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) and Hydrogen-Deuterium Exchange Mass Spec (HDXMS) experimental data. - Played a key role in the development of a multicellular simulation system (.NET, C#, Matlab) designed around low level processes with a common API for the low-level mathematical objects and operations, and a dynamic, highly-synchronized GUI using Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF). - Developed algorithms and software for template-matching segmentation of images from immunohistochemistry staining, using information-theoretic principles (C#, Matlab).

- Calibrated maize models to field trial data in multiple locations and for multiple years for two crop-modeling platforms (AquaCrop, DSSAT). - Used mathematical optimization techniques to optimize model traits for yield, nitrogen use, and water use. - Analyzed the effectiveness of soy breeding programs for varieties, locations, and years. - Developed software and algorithms to automate generation of three-dimensional computer anatomical (mesh) models from serial sections of nasal airways for airflow simulation and prediction. The software was successfully used to generate nasal airway models for a number of individuals from a large database of MRI and CT scans.

I carried out research on a wide variety of topics, including chemical vapor deposition, electromagnetic interrogation, and viral and cellular dynamics. Solving problems in these diverse disciplines required a broad array of analytical and computational methods, including: - ordinary and partial differential equations - finite-element methods - optimization - real-time control - stochastic modeling. Accomplishments include: - Working with medical and dental clinicians to develop mathematical models to describe the reactivation of latent herpes viruses. These models were used to predict reactivation behavior due to inducing agents and immunosuppression - Using mathematical modeling and simulation to guide the design of a new prototype high pressure chemical vapor deposition reactor as part of a Multi-University Research Initiative team. The collaborative design effort significantly reduced the time and money needed to design and build a successful reactor.

Lead engineer in Research and Development of power transistors. - Accomplishments include: Learning matrix iterative analysis through self-study and applying these techniques to simulate the electrical breakdown of high-voltage junctions. - Using these simulations to design a new mesa power transistor line for the company.
