About Grace Marcus
The first robot I built wasn't anything special. A simple mess of LEGO pieces that barely stayed together sat in a sad lump on the table in front of a nervous eleven year old me. After closing my eyes and making a quick wish on a star, I pressed the big orange button that would start my first-ever program.The robot immediately fell apart. It lost a wheel and its arm, which had not exactly been the plan. After a quick rebuild, I held my breath and tried again. And the sad lump moved. It was only about two inches from where started, but that was more than enough for me. Unable to contain my excitement at what would be the most important two inches of my life, I jumped up from the table in a thrill- and consequently knocked my robot to the floor, breaking it in half. I've had a lot of practice at rebuilding. I'd love to say that my life has been a never-ending series of success stories, but that doesn't seem to be the way things work for me. Each new project I take on is an arduous process of building, breaking, and rebuilding. That goes for the robots, and for me. I'm no longer that dispirited eleven year old sulkily putting LEGOs back together. Instead, I'm rather happy when something breaks, because it gives me an excuse to make it better. That obsession with rebuilding has carried me through high school and into college. As a computer engineer, I get to experiment, create, and break to my hearts content. I get to talk with others who share my passion, and argue about circuits and code for days on end. I'm happier than I've ever been, and I can't wait to see where I'll go next.So if you need a team member with a passion for innovation and who's undaunted by things falling apart, then I'm your girl.
