Currently, I am helping to study the role of stromal cell communication with tumor cells on cancer growth and metastasis using RT-PCR, cell culture and in vivo mouse models of human colon, kidney, bladder, and gastric cancer.

I re-engineered several different genes and promoters in plasmids for the lab and did protein expression assays with them. I inserted two versions of a highly active mutation of a drug activated-killer gene (HSV-tk) into adenoviruses for use as cancer therapeutics.
My projects have been 1) setting up and validating a RealTime PCR assay and quantifying RNA expression from 132 patient samples; 2) determining somatic mutation rates in 20 heavy and light chain variable regions of anti-HIV antibodies; 3) purifying and characterizing antibodies from sources which include rabbit and horse serum, hybridoma cell supernatant.
