I established and maintained a QExactive high-resolution liquid chromatography mass spectrometer (LCMS) in the Metallo lab. I developed methods for small polar metabolite identification and lipidomic quantification and flux measurements using stable-isotope tracing modalities both in vitro and in vivo to understand complex metabolic flux data sets in the contexts of cancer and macular telangiectasia. I have experience of large human cohort serum analysis from extraction to targeted LCMS batch analysis. Using CRISPR-Cas9 technology in parallel with targeted therapeutic strategies I mechanistically probed metabolic pathways. I assisted in grant writing and frequently presented my findings at meetings within the lab, Institute and at conferences.

In the Metallo lab, I used stable isotope tracing in combination with high-resolution mass spectrometry to explore complex lipid metabolism in cancer. The lab moved to the Salk Insitute where I continued my research in cancer metabolism.

Supervisors: Dr Jurre Kamphorst, Professor Owen SansomUsing gas chromatography mass-spectrometry (GCMS) and high-resolution LCMS, I established several stable isotope tracing modalities using 13C, 15N and 2H2O tracers both in vitro and in vivo, to gain an understanding of cholesterol and redox metabolism in breast, colon and pancreatic cancer.
