Barrier Free Theatre Company of Maryland is a theatre company for adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities and autism. It is used to increase social skills, reaction time, and to build creative and critical thinking. At this internship, I provided direct support to our clients as they went through the 8 week theatre program and performances. Every session brings new problems, a different atmosphere in the group, and new behaviors. This experience helped me to understand the importance of quick problem-solving, observing social behaviors and interactions, and how to incorporate therapeutic techniques into a theatre program.
