The Eroglu Lab, Department of Cell Biology at Duke UniversityThe Eroglu Lab conducts research with a primary objective of understanding the development of glial cells, specifically astrocytes, the most abundant type of cell in the mammalian brain. Under the direction of Ph.D./M.D. candidate Gabi Séjourné, I am investigating the how the deletion of δ-Catenin impacts cortical cellular organization.

The Lemos Laboratory, University of Minnesota Medical School and University of Minnesota’s Medical Discovery Team (MDT) on AddictionThe focus of the Lemos Laboratory is to explore the processing and encoding of stress within the brain. A major area of interest is the examination of how neuropeptides associated with stress impact the functioning of neural circuits that are crucial for motivation and emotion. Additionally, the Lemos Lab investigates how chronic or traumatic stress can lead to increased susceptibility to conditions such as depression, anxiety, and addiction. As a paid member of the lab, I assisted on several projects focusing on CRF neurons in the VTA and VP.

The Gibert Lab utilizes mathematical models and computational tools to understand microbial systems and predator-prey relationships between protists and bacteria and their impact on climate change.- Classified protists, including oligohymenophorea, amoebozoa, stramenopiles, colpodea, litostomatea, and spirotrichea.- Assisted graduate student with experimental preparation, and sample preparation.- Used FlowCam and Flow Cytometry to gather data on protist food webs and survival under different environmental conditions.

I was invited to join the KIDBOX Board of Directors, which is composed of ten young people from across the country who have positively impacted their communities. Yoobi, an LA-based company dedicated to providing school supplies to those in need, took note of my work in implementing and organizing an annual school supply drive for the Kids in Need Foundation. The mission of my drive was to both provide local families with the tools all students need to learn, as well as keep unused supplies out of the landfill. At Yoobi’s suggestion, I was selected by KIDBOX to join several other young people in New York City to share my experiences and was mentored by CEO, Miki Berardelli. I proposed a plan to implement a clothing section in my local Kids in Need Foundation store, which ultimately resulted in providing children in the Twin Cities with warm, new clothing. KIDBOX presented me with $10,000 worth of clothing to launch my idea. This experience has provided me with numerous mentors and inspiration to continue making a difference.
