Hi!I'm Grace, a first-year Cell Biology PhD student at New York Medical College (NYMC), in Valhalla, NY. As a researcher, I'm motivated by a deep-seated curiosity in what drives disease at the molecular level and how that understanding can be leveraged to design potential treatments. I plan to delve further into this academic area while completing my lab rotations at NYMC.I've built my strong academic foundation and passion for research by obtaining a Bachelor of Science from Drew University, received in May 2024. I majored in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and minored in Neuroscience, graduating as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, TriBeta, Gamma Sigma Epsilon, and Nu Rho Psi.As an undergraduate, I gained hands-on experience in molecular biology, genetics, synthetic biology, and biomedical engineering research, working on projects such as designing and testing novel DNA constructs, optimizing gene expression and regulation, and engineering bacterial biosensors. I have also developed skills in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific communication, presenting my research at multiple conferences and symposia.Furthermore, I am passionate about combatting underrepresentation in STEM and increasing accessibility in science, which is why I founded and led the Empowerment in STEM Club at Drew University, organizing workshops, events, and outreach programs to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM fields. As I progress through my scientific career, I aim to dedicate my focus to mentorship, science communication, and DEI initiatives, in addition to my research.

Summer Research AssistantDrew University Jun 2021 - Aug 2021Madison, New Jersey, United StatesI worked with Dr. Jean Lachowicz in Drew University's RISE department to research the effects of probiotics on C. elegans with the Alzheimer's disease phenotype. I gained experience with Gel electrophoresis, cell culture, genetic sequencing, PCR, western blot, C. Elegans husbandry, and microscopy. I presented my experimental findings in both a written and oral format. -
Reu Undergraduate ResearcherRutgers University–New Brunswick May 2023 - Aug 2023New Brunswick, New Jersey, United StatesI was one of nine undergraduate researchers apart of the Cellular Bioengineering REU at Rutgers University New Brunswick. I'm worked under Dr. Nada Boustany to study the relationship between cytoskeletal tension and cell migration/proliferation using a novel vinculin tension probe. I used techniques including immunofluorescence, FRET-FLIM, tissue culture, confocal microscopy, and image processing. I presented my results through an oral presentation and poster session. -
Reu Undergraduate ResearcherSimmons University May 2022 - Aug 2022Boston, Massachusetts, United StatesI worked with Dr. Jennifer Canfield to design and construct an estrogen biosensor using split nanoluciferase activity. I used molecular cloning techniques including gel electrophoresis, PCR, Sanger sequencing, and Coomassie protein gels. I presented in weekly lab meetings and journal clubs, and gained experience using BLAST, PyMOL, and Snapgene. I presented my findings in March 2023 at the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Annual Meeting in Seattle, WA.
