Office Support, Planning & Zoning
Cycling And Pedestrian Fellow, Planning & Transportation
In this role, I acted as the project historian for an internal report on Bloomington's downtown street ordinances, created as part of a larger corridor study. As part of the same project, I identified businesses to notify about the study, brainstormed public outreach strategies, and compiled parking data. During the spring of 2023, I inventoried downtown bicycle parking to update the city's data and make recommendations for bike rack improvements and installations. I also analyzed crash data involving cyclists and pedestrians to identify common causes and potential safety improvements for vulnerable road users. When I resumed this role in August 2023, I served on the department's corridor study team and assisted with generating design concepts and preparing for steering committee meetings. I researched and presented on the merits of one-way streets and two-way streets as part of this team. Additionally, I managed the department's social media, promoting cycling and pedestrian safety infrastructure and initiatives.
Sustainability Intern, Planning & Zoning
As sustainability intern, I assisted with grant applications to secure federal funding for a variety of projects, including EV charging, solar panels, and traffic safety. I made contact with 80+ business and 100+ residents to promote Fishers' city-wide trails and greenways survey, resulting in nearly 1700 responses. I also wrote portions of a new city HOA handbook, focusing on environmental best practices like lawn watering and native habitats. Additionally, I was trained in TAC/Plan Review, learning how to compare site plans to the city's code and provide feedback.During my time with the City of Fishers, I collaborated with other departments through formal working groups. I was a member of the Mental Health Action PLACE Team, which sought to improve residents' mental health through physical space. I also worked on the Environmental Working Groups, subdivided into Energy, Ecosystems, and Rural & Resource Lands. I presented to these groups on local water needs, city energy usage, and potential funding opportunities/partnerships.
Assistant Manager
As Assistant Manager, I supervised and managed a team of 35 in groups of up to twelve employees at a time. I was the primary trainer for ten team members, six team leaders, and two assistant managers. In addition to this initial training, I supervised ongoing training for both my entire team and for fifteen team leaders at two other Graeter’s locations. This ongoing training included weekly one-on-ones with the other stores’ most senior team leaders, as well as monthly one-on-ones with all others. I created the store schedule, placed and checked in orders, completed bimonthly inventory, wrote a weekly report for the market’s vice president, audited store system’s binders, and attended regularly scheduled training classes.

Mayor'S Office Intern
In this internship, I shadowed the building commissioner and learned about city policies and regulations regarding permits, property lines, official notifications, and land development. I monitored the City Hall phone, from which I answered basic questions and took reservations for public buildings. I also researched and compared food and drink prices for public pool concessions
Policy Fellow
My second internship with ASCE focused primarily on the 2021 Infrastructure Report Card. I was the designated source checker for all eighteen chapters. I worked remotely and independently for the entirety of my position, with weekly check ins with my supervisor and occasional meetings with other staff members. In the days leading up to the Report Card release, I put together key talking points and state fact sheets for each of the 50 states, as well as D.C. and Puerto Rico. After the Report Card release, I wrote chapters for South Carolina’s Report Card and presented information about the ASCE Report Card program to a panel of experts.
Teaching Assistant
As the teaching assistant for Introduction to American Politics and Policy, I graded daily discussion posts and tracked attendance and participation for seventeen students I also facilitated communication between students, myself, and the professor; and determined which questions to answer directly and which to send along to the professor
Government Relations Intern
During this semester-long internship, I researched, wrote, and edited chapters for Mississippi's State Infrastructure Report Card. I attended and summarized Congressional hearings and briefings. Using web design skills, I updated the ASCE state website pages and conducted audits of the Sections and Branches pages. I wrote multiple blog posts for the ASCE's infrastructurereportcard.org. My primary independent project at ASCE was a State Legislative Day Toolkit. I wrote narrative explaining how to use the toolkit to put together a "drive-in" for ASCE members to meet with and lobby their state lawmakers. I compiled previously written documents and wrote new ones where needed. This document will be used by ASCE's Sections and Branches to plan lobbying events across the country.
