Education Program Director , Learning and Development Leader, Education & Opportunity Equity AdvocateCurrently, as Director of Talent Search and GEAR UP at American Student Assistance, we provide college access programming through our federally funded programs, GEAR UP Boston and Boston Talent Search across 5 middle and high schools in Boston Public Schools district. Our work allows us to continuously work to bridge the education and opportunity gap experienced by our inner-city youths.Equity is at the core of experiences designed for our students. My goal is to inspire students and expose them to what's possible with post-secondary education. I provide strategic planning, Short and long term action plans, thought leadership and professional development and Talent management under both grantsLooking back, I simply wandered into the Education Sector as a college student. I spent my time in local classrooms in Amherst performing Science experiments and demonstrations and creating digital content to encourage students to be interested in the STEM fields. I also worked in college access in a TRIO program with youth in Boston as they prepared for college applications and college prep. I was able to see and recognize first hand the struggles of first-generation, low-income families and the disparity in opportunities available to them.Now I can use those experiences to inform our long and short term action plan, adaptation of new technology such as Salesforce (CRM) to inform our data collection and analysis, manage budget in a fiscally responsible manner, Provide digestible professional development to staff to drive student outcomes, provide college and career exploration experiences and meet federal legislative and regulatory guidelines, expansion of STEM programming like “Girls Who Code” across our school sites.
