Temporary part-time position through Vermont Law and Graduate School. Manage the expansion of the National Center on Restorative Justice’s Restorative Justice Laws Database to include all tribes that have codified the use of restorative justice approaches.

Executed my Skadden Fellowship project that was focused on developing and expanding restorative justice programs and processes for tribes that channels harm-doers away from incarceration and fines, and towards rehabilitation, community involvement, and healing. The project specifically aimed to help tribes expand restorative justice practices and processes in their Healing to Wellness Courts (tribal treatment courts). In addition to my Skadden Fellowship project, I created resources for and provided training and technical assistance (TTA) to tribes in developing and enhancing their justice systems, with a focus on implementing and enhancing Healing to Wellness Courts and Peacemaking programs. I also wrote memos and other resources on the legal issues surrounding implementation of Healing to Wellness Courts and other restorative justice systems, such as issues concerning tribal criminal jurisdiction, due process considerations, issues arising from the violent offender prohibition established in 34 U.S.C. § 10612, special considerations for juveniles in the criminal legal system, and other relevant legal issues.

Research Assistant for Professor Angela R. Riley, Director of Native Nations Law and Policy Center.Supported research on Indigenous peoples’ rights, with a particular emphasis on cultural property and Native governance, by doing legal research, collecting and analyzing data, writing memos, and editing work product.

Research Assistant for Professor Fanna Gamal, Assistant Professor of Law.Supported research on the role of public education in criminal legal reform by doing legal research, creating Bluebook citations, and editing work product.

Research Assistant for Professor Joseph Berra, Human Rights in the Americas Project Director.Supported ongoing human rights advocacy projects with Indigenous peoples and partners in Honduras and Los Angeles by doing legal research, brief writing, and report writing.

Conducted legal and policy research in support of eviction defense and affirmative housing litigation. This includes writing in-depth legal research memos, brief writing, making court appearances to assist trial attorney, assisting negotiations, and conducting client intake.

Public Relations Project Manager for Beyond the Bars LA through the UCLA Prison Education Program. Duties include collaborating with all other project managers for all marketing materials and communications, including but not limited to: Updating website, sending mass email communications, creating social media language and posts; creating flyers and other media communications. The role also includes supervising, mentoring, and supporting for Fellows on the Public Relations team (5 Fellows).

Summer legal intern at the ACLU Capital Punishment Project. Conduct legal and policy research in support of capital defense litigation. Provide research, memo, and brief writing for State of Kansas v. Cornell McNeal (state constitutional challenge to Kansas’s death penalty, in context of trial case), State of North Carolina v. Jonathan Monk (North Carolina capital trial), and Hassan Bacote v. State of North Carolina (North Carolina Racial Justice Act challenge to death sentence in Johnston County).

Support tribal nations with tribal court development and cultural resources protections by doing legal research, brief writing, and report writing.

Judicial Extern for Chief Justice Michael E. Vigil.Analyzed multiple case files, including associated pleadings, motion, and exhibits; researched both federal and state case law and statutory law; prepared judicial orders and memoranda; observed oral arguments and trial proceedings; wrote and edited sections of Court Opinions.

• Was responsible for frontline interaction with members; conduct intakes and assessments in order to ascertain and recommend appropriate resource referrals. Provide resources in the Denver metro area for women, children, and transgender individuals who are experiencing homelessness or poverty. • Redirected high stress/agitated individuals while navigating complex, highly charged situations in a fast paced environment. • Worked and trained using Trauma-Informed Care practices and procedures.• Organized the 2019 annual Health Fair for the organization, in which over 115 members attended. This included managing over 35 health-related organizations from Denver.
