About Grace Tran

I'm a qualitative UX researcher with 10+ years of experience delivering high-level research insights for complex problem spaces with accelerated impact and results. My diverse research portfolio includes research on both B2B and B2C products and both SaaS-based and mobile applications, ranging from e-commerce to health and wellness apps, AI-based travel, privacy and security, and fintech. At Sendoso, the world's leading B2B sending platform, I focused on product-defining problems about user behaviors and attitudes that helped shape company strategy. I drove conversations with cross-functional stakeholders to scope, design, and execute high-impact research projects that answered foundational questions about their 28,000+ users, such as: 'Who are our users' recipients?' and 'What user-centric features do we build next?' From there, I wove together compelling, data-driven narratives to help the C-level and executive team leverage these insights at scale. In my previous life, I was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Cornell University where I programmed its first research mentorship program and taught best research practices. I turned down academic job offers to pursue a career in UX because I'm a relentlessly curious researcher and tech enthusiast.I did my PhD at the University of Toronto, where I conducted an award-winning, 18-month ethnography specializing in human decision-making and migration technology. I'm also a Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council Scholar whose industry-leading research has been published in several journals and featured at international conferences around the globe. My career ultimately stems from 3 childhood hobbies: storytelling, asking "why," and teaching myself how to code and graphics design to optimize my Neopets' storefront (thank you, Neopets!)

As Sr. Qualitative UX Researcher for the world's leading B2B gifting platform, I apply a creative and critical lens to answer foundational and generative questions about our 30,000+ users across 48 different countries. I translate these insights with product leadership, designers, engineers, and executives to inform how we build for our users in innovative ways that continue to delight and scale.Within my first 60 days, I gathered cross-functional input from 58+ stakeholders, conducted 1:1 calls to flesh out user personas, and executed the company's first competitive analysis and usability testing to identify user needs in a net-new market using the JTBD framework. The insights from this research were presented to the C-Suite, and leadership changed the existing roadmap to pursue several opportunities that I identified. Here at Sendoso, I also drive qualitative research projects with speed, agility, and enthusiasm to ensure that decision-makers make critical decisions with an informed, data-driven, user-first approach. I also streamline consultation requests with XFN stakeholders to spearhead UX research mentorship at Sendoso, empowering people across the org to learn more about research, how to leverage it, and how to self-service research while leveraging the UXR team's expertise for guidance.
