I first stepped on El Teatro Campesino's (ETC) stage in 1977. A second generation member of the theater company, the Serna family transplanted to San Juan Bautista, California to join the international theater company in 1975. As lifelong members of the United Farmworkers since 1968, I began my activism at an early age. Aside from marching hundreds of miles for social and humanitarian justice, I have appeared in numerous ETC productions including Bernabe, Zoot Suit, Bandido, La Virgen del Tepeyac, El Fin del Mundo, La Carpa de los Rasquachis and Popol Vuh to name a few. Aside from the San Juan Bautista Theater Company, other acting, singing, and directing credits include internships with Gallery Players of Oregon, San Benito Stage Company, and Cal State Monterey Bay (Capstone Project). Film credits include Oscar, and Chuy Chicharron. As a published poet, my original poem Fading Sett can be found in Poetry in Flight-El Tecolote 40th Anniversary Anthology. From 2000 - 2013, I- along with my children and grandchildren- formed a family troupe called Indigenous Chaos. The Chaos' hard hitting political satire gained fame as we performed throughout California and the Pacific Northwest. Aside from working with students as an Artist in the Schools, my latest play Will Power recently premiered (July 2023) at the Henry Mello Center in Watsonville, California. A new piece titled Tierra Firma is currently in the works and is set for introduction in 2024. Currently, I am putting my degree in Communications to work, as I travel throughout California speaking to groups, panels, and organizations about my journey and experiences.. I can also be found working in the archives of El Teatro Campesino continuing the digitizing of decades of historical content housed at ETC.
