Ever since I watched my first episode of Forensic Files, I knew I wanted to work in a crime lab. I have always been passionate about science and have loved a good murder mystery, so I knew a career in the forensic science field was the job for me. My future goal in this career is to work in the biology unit of a forensic crime lab in Arizona. Being a patient, hard-working, driven, and organized person I believe this career will suit me well.Currently, I am a student who is pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science with a minor in personal health through Barrett the Honors College at Arizona State University. While in school I am an undergraduate student researcher in Jonathan Parrott's forensic biology research lab. However, when I am not in school some activities you might find me doing are: playing with my dogs, reading a good sci-fi or dystopian book, hiking, or hanging out with my friends.

InternArizona Department Of Public Safety Aug 2024 - PresentPhoenix, Arizona, United StatesI became familiar with the serology/DNA lab protocols and safety precautions within the lab area while learning and practicing proper clean techniques for setting up work benches and handling materials. I assisted one serologist and one DNA analyst in completing 2 validation studies.For study 1, I practiced liquid extractions of alpha-amylase from saliva, followed by RSID testing and photography of results. I then prepared diluted saliva samples for DNA work and performed DNA extractions, quantification, and amplification. For my second study, I created dilutions of blood samples and prepared stains on a white t-shirt, then treated the shirt with BlueStar reagent. I performed DNA extractions and quantification on cuttings from each dilution stain over several different time markers. -
