About Graeme Archer
Research & MST Statistics are the statisticians for Discovery, Pre-Clinical Development, Translational biomarkers, Early Clinical Development and CMC within GSK’s R&D organisation. This global team sews the golden statistical thread from target identification through to proof of mechanism/1b, as well as supporting product development through work with colleagues in CMC. We help establish rigorous decision-making frameworks at each stage of development, to connect project plans with downstream risk modulation. It is our mission to ensure statistical rigour at all times throughout Research. We work closely with biologists, chemists, geneticists and physicians across R&D, of course, but have a particular affinity with quantitative cousins across the analytics community - bioinformatics, computational biology, AIML, pharmacometrics and so on. We are always interested in hearing from PhD statisticians who are curious about a career in pharma - there’s a lot more to statistics and drug development than Phase 3 clinical research, vital though that be. About Graeme: more than two decades of experience in the drug development industry, using my PhD in statistical methods to promote a Bayesian approach to R&D. "If this [probability] calculus be condemned, then the whole of the sciences must also be condemned" - Henri Poincaré, "Science and Hypothesis", 1902. A spare-time writer about politics, in 2015-16 I spent a sabbatical year as a speechwriter for a cabinet minister in the British government.
Listed skills include Writing, Journalism, Blogging, Editorial, and 12 others.

Statistical Data Sciences Head, And Clinical Data Domain Owner
CurrentThe clinical data domain owner develops the strategy for harnessing the power of our "data lake" -- the repository of all our clinical trial and real world data. How can archetypal data science methods add value to drug development? What should a statistics function look like in a world of data science and data lakes? Etc. I've been at GSK since 1998, where I work in drug development R&D as a statistician. Details of my different roles appear below. Whatever LinkedIn is choosing to display about my location, I live in London.
Director Of Statistics
I joined GSK (SB, as it then was) in 1998 as a preclinical statistician, working with scientists in neuroscience discovery and on safety assessment (toxicology) studies. Over the next two decades I worked in clinical pharmacology; as the experimental medicine statistician at our group's Addenbrooke's unit; then as head statistician for Psychiatry and then Neuroscience discovery and early phase clinical development (responsible from candidate selection through to Proof of Concept in Phase 2.) I then became the Therapy Area Head statistician for ADD, Rare Diseases, Ophthalmology, Dermatology (and some more!), managing a team of two dozen statisticians in the US and UK.
