Senior Finished Artists / Photoshop Retoucher / Head Of Craft
After Mint merged with Draft FCB my position was mostly made up of photoshop retouching and finished art, working closely with designers and creatives. A lot of my work had to be highly crafted and I was called upon to do both brand and retail work. The company focused on strengthening the craft area and I was given the title of Head of Craft mainly to improve the quality of work produced, upskill operators and be in charge of quality control. After that I concentrated my efforts as the sole photoshop retoucher and my task was to bring more retouching in-house. I was required not only to produce high-end retouching but to get involved with the creatives wherever possible from concept roughs and scamps through to final art as well as help out in production areas whenever possible.
Studio Manager
Our studio manager went on maternity leave for nine months and I was asked to fill the position. This position required me to manage four staff and work very closely with the general manager, creatives, account directors/managers and print production. My duties were to manage a very busy schedule of monthly mailers, weekly press ads and P.O.S Material as well as any concept or pitch work for other clients as well as solve and fix any workflow and print problems. This was very much a hands on position and I was also needed to create any high quality retouching and concept work as well as the day to day running of the studio.
Senior Finished Artist
I was taken on for this role from my last studio manager that moved here from Ogilvy. She took me for my all round experience and my photoshop skills. My role consisted mainly of producing POS Material, photoshop retouching, creating and designing layouts, working closely with the creatives and being involved with production. Our team produced mainly mailers, POS, DM pieces and material for TVCs. We also had to generate our own workload and even got involved with retouching lots of stills for a Vincent Ward movie. This position at a new small sister company of Draft FCB was very challenging but very rewarding and I enjoyed being part of small but very successful team.
Senior Mac Operator / Graphic Designer / Photoshop Retoucher
As Senior Mac Operator/Graphic Designer my main role is to work closely with the creative directors and customer services to produce mainly point of sale material and small amounts of brand work. I was required to produce concept through to finished print ready files and PDFs. I am very experienced in photoshop and with an artistic eye I enjoyed producing high quality creative finished photoshop files. I headed a team of five mac operators/designers all with various roles within the Progressive Enterprise team it is a position where I was required to help and assist in all areas and pass on my experience to others. I had moved on to the brand area before being offered a job at Mint. Being part of a large advertising agency that values my experience has been a very rewarding experience.
Graphic Designer / Mac Operator
In my position as Graphic Designer I work within a small team with one junior designer, myself and the creative director. I assist the creative director with ideas and concepts for promotions and other material. I take ideas through from first to final presentation, then on to finished print ready files or PDFs. I produce scamps and roughs, create mock-ups for packaging, knifelines for packs and produce illustrations wherever needed. I finish off with high resolution photoshop work, colour correction and retouching. I am also responsible for directing photo shoots for pack shots or any other shots for layouts. If needed, I take photographs In-House with our Canon camera for pack shots or low res images for presentations. I am also able to give advice on any printing or pre-press issues, having an extensive background in pre-press and print.
Graphic Designer / Mac Operator
My main task was to take direction from the creative director, use his scamps to create first presentations and then take the job all the way through to final print ready files. In my position I was involved in all areas within the company, doing illustrations, retouching, making knifelines, researching, pre-press and creating mockups. Working within a growing boutique agency has provided a fast-paced, challenging environment, being involved with more diverse media and clients which has helped me develop into a confident graphic designer.
Mac Operator / Retoucher
My workload consisted of high quality and challenging retouching in photoshop, some design work, producing imposed film and plates for the press at McCollams printers, producing final files and film for digital printers, newspapers, magazines, screen printers and others. Working within one of the leading pre-press companies on the North Shore has provided a fast-paced, challenging environment, learning new skills and keeping up-to-date with the latest technology. The most recent equipment installed included Platesetter, Scitex Server and Rips with Scitex Workflow. With a busy workload, where even the management were learning new skills, they encouraged myself and other mac operators to get more involved in getting the most efficient workflow and the best quality output.
Mac Operator
Moving to the mac side of the business provided experience in a wider variety of work including retouching in photoshop for advertsiing agencies. My two years as a mac operator also included experience working with a database system and the running out and checking of film. My previous background, as a four colour stripper was advantageous in giving me a stronger understanding of overall print needs.
4 Colour Final Film Planner - Stripper
Working for the largest screen printer in Europe, who also had Litho presses, my work consisted primarily of litho and some screen print planning. A challenging environment, with a wide variety of work meant it was essential to have a thorough understanding of different stock, inks, process, shape and size, as a lot of work had to be projected. A lot of retouching and colour correcting was involved as well as doing chromalins. We worked alongside the in-house plate makers, printers and ink mixers and regular liaison with the customers was involved.
Night Shift 4 Colour Planner
As sole charge night shift Four Colour Planner, very similar to that at Tabloid, but the work produced was of a higher quality.
Repro Manager
Managing the planning department was a position which commanded vast responsibility and included quality control and checking of final film, meeting strict deadlines, supervision of five staff, costing and estimating and ensuring artwork, colour mark ups, four colour scans and black and white scans were correctly supplied. Liaising with other departments in the company played a key part of my role which developed my communication skills and broadened my knowledge of the overall print business to a management level.
