In addition, I also have responsibility for progressing the Royal Military Police External Placements Programme.I am also responsible for keeping Hampshire Constabulary complaint with its regulatory responsibilities for CPD matters, a critically important area inspected by HMICFRS. Managing a team of 12 officers, I was the investigative and safeguarding lead for the team, and oversaw all investigations whilst protecting the welfare of vulnerable individuals. As you would expect, this was an intensive training programme which involved classroom based learning, regular examinations and practical application using simulators. I learnt things about the weather I never knew before! and developed in-depth knowledge of UK, EU and International aviation rules and regulations. This was all tested in ‘live’ simulator situations, where I achieved consistently high standards of performance and unfortunately the role came to an end with the pandemic.

Requiring specialist training, this was a role of significant responsibility, ensuring the security of embassy sites and international diplomats. I liaised directly with diplomatic personnel in relation to criminal cases and exercised sensitivity in communications.

A Team Leader/Manager role, I oversaw the daily running of the team, including supervising their investigations, developing their skills, and created a cohesive, motivated and top performing unit which delivered results. As the point of contact for issues, I made critical decisions on cases, ensured we complied with the law and worked at pace to keep investigations on track.

Following training, I worked in front-line policing in London, working at the forefront of crime, and responding to 999 emergency calls for help from the public. With no two days ever the same, I gained a deep understanding of crime in this role, the effects on victims and the important role of safeguarding. I managed my own cases, which ranged from shop theft to terrorist incidents – dealing with all aspects from initial enquiry to interviewing suspects and giving evidence in court.
