- Work closely with senior management to ensure VicForests maintains the highest standards of safety with in its operations and maintains strong compliance with safety obligations,- Manage the VicForests third party audit programs.- Ensure best practice is maintained in audit standards and practice.- Analyse outcomes of internal and third-party audits to identify and implement opportunities for improvement.- Ensure VicForests’ has effective processes in place to undertake investigation and root cause analysis of accidents/incidents, providing analysis and interpretation of conditions or safety concerns and provide recommendations to prevent future occurrences.- Partner with industry to ensure the success of safety initiatives.- Manage the VicForests drug and alcohol testing program.- Procure auditors and other consultants as needed ensuring public sector requirements for procurement and tendering are met,- Contribute to VicForests OHS Management review and OHS Internal Audit program- Identify and manage key risks and ensure risk management processes are followed.- Ensure risk management is embedded in the processes for which the position is responsible.- Ensure VicForests maintains an effective Contractor OHS Committee.

• Provide Operational safety support to both VicForests operational staff and to our harvest and haul contractors across all of Eastern Victoria.• Inspecting workplaces to ensure that a safe work environment is being maintained and work procedures reflect effective accident prevention practices.• Evaluate hazards within the forest for safety, health and environmental risks.• Engaging with contractors and supporting them in the development of actions plans to address issues.• Conducting research on workplace health and safety issues• Run tests and drills on contractor’s emergency procedures• Consulting with and educating employers, workers, and others on occupational health and safety matters• Review safety and incident reports, noting any trends and producing safety focus areas for the operations team.• Partnering with industry to ensure the success of safety initiatives• Perform fire suppression activities in conjunction with DELWP

Core responsibilities were to review and analyse governmental and industry policy, regulations and relevant scientific research in order to provide authoritative oversight to the development and maintenance of VicForests Strategic Plans, Operating Procedures and Instructions that guide best forest practice.• Assist with maintenance and review of government and business policies, providing advice and support to management regarding the delivery of objectives.• Assist with the review, development and implementation of operational procedures, documents and processes to ensure alignment with all policy and business objectives.• Contribute to development and maintenance of VicForests internal training framework to ensure regional training programs support business wide regulatory compliance.• Engage with VicForests staff, government and stakeholders regarding policy

• Monitoring and auditing harvesting operators against expected production volumes and native timber harvesting legislation. • Ensure OH&S requirements are being maintained. Identify hazards in conjunction with Logging team leaders and provide input into toolbox meetings.• Conduct log grading audits and provide feedback.• Utilisation of GIS (ArcGIS) programs to generate coupe plan and burn plan maps.• Identify roading construction and upgrade requirements associated with future coupes. • Liaise with stakeholders - Department of Environment Land Water and Planning (DELWP) and Parks Victoria when forest operations about other land tenures and special values.• Reconnaissance of future coupes capturing basal areas, estimate sawlog and residual volumes. • Identify areas restricted from harvesting (e.g. rainforest, Leadbeaters possum habitat)• Burn Officer in Charge for planning and conducting regeneration burning operations, either aerially or hand ignition. Provide on ground situation updates to Operations Officer and Incident Controller.
