I'm a nearly bilingual mechanical engineering student with a degree in music, a passion for the arts and a diverse work history. Concerning my engineering education, I have volunteered extensively with Lakehead University's Engineering Students' Society, helping plan, coordinate and run events, which helped secure my place as one of two Lakehead delegates at the 2016 First Year Integration Conference held at Ryerson University. In my first year design class, our group, of which I was the Project Manager, developed my personal concept of a revolutionized key fob. I was also the Vice President of the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering Lakehead University student chapter, and helped in planning and running events in that capacity as well. In fact, I brought in a friend as a guest speaker who has recently retired as a professional engineer but who continues to develop an extremely low-emissions, 3-D printed, 3-wheeled commuter car called the Urbee. I have a few other ideas of my own which I plan to develop in the future, including a unique colour-coding system for learning music notation and a new, aggressive take on the off-road skateboard.Outside of engineering, I have worked for many years as a personal support worker, and have also spent years working at an outdoor gear store and teaching guitar. I have volunteered for the Green Party and the Bay Street Film Festival, and tend to lend my time at clean-up efforts at various local swimming holes. I've played in various local bands over the years, and tend to volunteer at a local music festival. Hiking, swimming and mountain biking are favourite pass-times of mine, though they sometimes take a bit of a backseat to writing and recording my own rock or rap songs and developing new ideas, like those mentioned above. One of my songs, "Idle No More!", managed to place 7th in a national songwriting competition. One year I designed the sound for the animated clip which introduced the Bay Street Film Festival. That year I also composed the music for a jazz song which was a highlight of a play I starred in as three different characters. I was the music director of that project in several other capacities. The Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra has performed my first (and thus far only) orchestral composition entitled "Beringia".
